Schnable fore ends anyone?
« on: February 05, 2010, 11:11:07 AM »

I only have one forend that is of the schnable type all the rest are standard straight forends. I was wondering if anyone has tried turning a standard forend into a schnable? I'm thinking it doesn't look all that hard. It's all about taking wood away, not having to add any.

I'm just the opposite. I can't stand the schnable forearms. I cut the lip off of them and sand into a nice round tip. :-\
I just don't like the looks of them.

I'll trade you a new schnable off a 20 ga. NEF,for a regular straight one.  I'm with Spanky, I like the straight ones. I prefer the straight 'English' style butt stock too.

I like Schnabel forearms. Other than 1 tamer that is all I have right now. One unexpected advantage with a schnabel is that I can grip the gun in that "valley" and push forward against the schnabel end just a bit. It really reduces felt recoil for me.

I love schnabels, I just don't care for the way H&R excutes their version. On the other hand given the price of the rifle,I ain't complaining. Or as my Dad always said it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.
