french model 1892
« on: February 05, 2010, 02:10:10 PM »
i just picked one of these up at my local shop.  it was made in 1922, i am currently searching out information on the pistols themselves, the 8mm cartridge they fire, load data ( since none of my loading manuals have any), and any experience anyone has with these neat revolvers.  Does anyone have anything to share.  Thanks

I think you have a Model 1892 Ordnance Revolver most commonly referred to as the lebel.  It takes a 8mm rimmed cartridge that looks a lot like the 32-20 and brass can be made for the 8mm Lebel from 32-20 cases.  The bullet diameter is .330 and you can use the Lyman #32359 cast bullet.  I think Fiochhi may sell ammo for it.  A cast load using a 115 gn bullet over 2.5 gns of Bullseye gets you to 700'/sec.  In the same range of the 32 S&W Long.  HTH.
