I can feel your pain. After a while you build a bond that is almost as strong as the bond with other family members. I lost my old German Shepard a short while back; he had been a family member for fourteen years. I acquired a replacement pup and lost it after two weeks; it had parvo and could not be saved. Two weeks ago I bought a five month old German Shepard female, I think she is going to be a great dog, big and smart she hit the scales at 56 pounds when I picked her up. I had a plan for her training but had to put it on the back burner due to my health problems, but hopefully I can get back on schedule next week
A friend sent me this after I lost my old Shepard Sam. I hope you can find some comfort in the thought.
The Rainbow Bridge
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and earth. It is called
the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this
side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of many meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. The old frail
animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made
whole again. They play all day with each other.
There is only one thing missing, they are not with their special
person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and
play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and
looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring.
And this one runs from the group.
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet
you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed
again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes
of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never to be
separated.
