scored myself a new 270 today

I cant wait to give it a shot. I have never even shot a 270 win before. From what I have read about the round, it should have enough to dump a coyote at about any range I can hit them.

O'Connor had a lot of questions about his hunting skills, but he picked a good cartridge to popularize. 400 yards is pretty far, but not for a .270.

.270 H&R is what i use for coyotes and its good enough to hunt anything else in North America too, definitely one of the best all around cartridges out there IMHO. You made a great choice and certainly won't regret it.

I just mounted up a leupold 3x9x40 on it, so my glass is covered. Came home with 2 boxes of 130 grain cor lokt. Gonna go give it some bench time tomorrow to see how it does. I been getting into coyote hunting lately and have taken 2 with my old win 30 30. It puts them down like there hit by a club, but I want more range sooo. I went shopping

That should be bad news for the yotes! A range report is a must around here,so we will be waiting.

Personally I will Admit, I am a .30 cal fan. But a few years ago I picked up a 270 at a Dirt price and it has really impressed me to say the VERY least. It's one of my no doubt go-to guns and I love it.
If you pick up a 270 then by all means play with it and do not over or undercritises it. It's a great round and if it fits your bill then enjoy it! Gotta love the V-Max's too

If your .30-.30 puts them down like a club, I won't spoil your fun and tell you what happens when you shoot one with a .270

I am guessing that by the increase in bullet speed that the 270 has, it should pop them open well.  I am already liking this gun more and more. I put it in the rack and its shorter then my carbine winchester. The only thing I am not sure about is when you open it, the shells just push out a little way and you have to dig it out with your fingers. I have a 12 gauge pardner and  it flips the shell out ready to go.

the .270 won't eject them like your pardner, it is set up as an extractor from the factory, and yes the .270 has alot more bullet speed and energy then the .30-.30 does so expect a very messy coyote

Well I went to my favorite shooting spot today and popped of some rounds. I dialed in the 270 at 50 yards, then moved my target back to one hundred yards on the mark.  I fired off a 3 shot group that was about give or take about 1 1/2 inch. Let the gun cool for about fifteen minutes and raised it to +2 inches at 100 and the groupes remained the same. Moved out to 200 yards and I was dead on but it opened up to about 2 1/2 inches, but its probably me. I set a full pepsi can out at 300 yards, and missed my first shot so I held about 3 inches above it and center punched it making a splat out of it. All in all I cant smile anymore or the top of my head will fall off. The biggest surprise was how smooth the recoil is. I can tell you this gun is a pussy cat to shoot. I think this may be my everything gun from now on. By the way, I was using the 130 grain soft tip core lokt rounds. The idea was to use these for predator calling. Would they also be ok for a mule deer round?

Any of the factory loads for the .270 will be fine for mule deer but your better off sticking with the ones which are 130>150 grains IMHO. Those core-lokts will work just fine within the range the round was designed for. Your accuracy #'s are just about the same as im getting and I couldn't be happier either. They are one hell of a good rifle for all around hunting

So I touched up the trigger last night and polished everything inside, and trimmed the return spring. Its alot better trigger break, but still needs more. I did take it out today to see if it made any improvments. sure brought them in tighter at 100 yards.

You can be confident of that. I've used a .270 for years on S. Texas whitetail and it can reach out and get 'em.
