Here's a strange news story about a 7th grader who was doodling on a school desk.

My daughter got busted when she was in 6th grade. She had made a fabric toy containing catnip as a gift to her friend, who had a couple of cats. The drug sniffing dogs were alerted by it. It all ended well, but it was quite alarming.

1.5" Lego gun? That's a new low. The previous low was when a kid got expelled for bringing a butter knife to school to help him finish making his lunch.

If they're going to get expelled for stupid stuff like that they should at least get expelled for something cool, like bringing a tommy gun and a bandolier of grenades to class. At least they'd deserve it then.

Things such as this speak volumes about the sanity of those we hire to educate our children, and it can go from one extreme to another.  When my son was in the sixth grade a teacher told the class they didn’t have to mind their parents if they didn’t want to, he said children have the right to refuse to do anything the parents directed if it was against their wishes.  Needless to say, the teacher and I had a long talk in which I came very close to administering something his parents neglected to do……….a good whipping!

Police state comes quicly to mind, as does lack in common sense.
In days, long gone, the student would have been required to clean every desk in the room, and that would be the lesson taught.
I would think that police time could be better used--no wonder we have poor response times to true police incidents and no officers where they really need to be.
NOW, my daughter works as a counselor in a school where they have 3 police officers stationed every day, all day--but, this school is a stop off for those who will need incarceration later.
Most large school districts in Houston have an independant police force to help with security---this hardly seems like a security issue. See what happens when teachers can't disipline anymore.
Blessings

Sure agree with that rockbilly. I drove school bus for 7 years. It seemed like the teachers got stupider every year. Sure was a lot different then than it was when i went to school. :o
