Screw In Choke Barrel?
« on: February 08, 2010, 02:16:22 PM »
I was looking at the Pardner Ownes Manual on line at the H&R website. At the end of the manaul it has the Part number for the 22" 20 gauge screw in choke compact barrel. It has an astrix by it which means that only the barrel would be fitted at the factory. Now my question is if I send my reciever in and requested the part number for a screw in barrel would they fit it to my reciever?

http://www.hr1871.com/documents/manuals/HR_NEF_PARDNER_SHOTGUN_MANUAL.pdf

Last two pages: Model number SB1-25C, Barrel part number: S03724

Thanks!

I hope you get a positive answer for this....I'd very much like to have one myself!  Spent months trying to find a 20 ga compact to no avail, FFL dealer said he looked everywhere for one.

Just saw your posts, I'll have an answer tomorrow.  It's not listed on the "accessory barrel" list, but I wonder what a phone call will accomplish.

Froghunter and Demented:

Bad news guys, the nice lady in South Carolina told me that it's a no-go.  I'd had the same idea recently and just figured I'd give it a try.

sorry,
Jeff

Not good news for those who wanted one! I was just looking for a loop hole. Does H&R still make them? My rabbit hunting buddy wants a Shorty and I was thinking of getting the compact to put one together for him. My has a NW sn which is 2006. I have not seen any listing on Gunbroker either!

I'LL continue to look for one and Thanks for the research!

More bad news.  It seems that the Pardner 20 Compact with screw in chokes [SB1-25C] is now sold exclusively through Davidsons Distributors and they don't even show it as a valid item number.

sorry,
Jeff

It's not in the 2010 catalog, the Hornet Handi was dumped too.  :-\

Does anyone know if there is sufficient wall thickness at the muzzle to ream the choke out and cut screw-in choke threads?
I have a 20 gauge Topper pawnshop find that I would like to make into a turkey gun. Danke in advance.

It may be less expensive to just buy a TDC barrel that already has a removable choke, it also has a vent rib to mount turkey sights on.  ;)

Tim you know that is not the Handi holic way. We must modify and tinker.

That's true, but this isn't something most of us could do ourselves as a tinkering project, I don't know what a gunsmith would charge, but I bet it would be comparable to the cost of a used TDC barrel, maybe not as much as an accessory barrel tho.  ;)

Tim,

Not many are willing to give up their TDC barrel. I'm having thoughts of placing my Shorty in the gun safe for safe keeping, well maybe the barrel anyway! The TDC is already in the safe! I have a 20 ga. 22" youth barrel I will have to start to using on the Shorty!

Good point, I sure enjoy carrying mine instead of the 835 I was using!! But posting in the WTB H&R classified ad wouldn't hurt, ya never know.  ;)
