Superbowl???
« on: February 09, 2010, 05:24:16 PM »

I didn't watch the game I was sleeping before going to work. Every year people talk about t he commercials. What was the best commercial in this year's line up?

  Any really funny ones?

I was watching with a bunch of family - nice, but the downside is they like to talk a lot during the breaks (so I didn't get to really watch the commercials like I wanted to).

My two favorites though were the Etrade Baby commercial and the Punxsutawney Polamalu commercial.

The advertising industry has lost it's imagination. About as dull a bunch of commercials as I have ever seen on the super bowl. eddie

What do people who watch the superbowl actually do while watching it? Is it just a matter of sitting on the couch and snacking or is there more to it?

+1 ... poor choice for a halftime band. My 14 yo laughed when he saw The Who lip synching; he thought that started with milli vanilli.

Definitely no lip sinking going on their. they would have sounded a lot better if they had.  Pete and Rodger's performance was lacking the intensity they had in their youth.  No midair splits while taking windmill chops on Pete's ax, none of Roger's trademark microphone twirling. And just an overall ho hum flat performance.  They never were technically the best but they had an energy, an aura, that few bands could match in their day and I day say few if any bands have today.  For you youngsters who had never experienced THE WHO during their heyday I challenge you to find a copy of the 'video rockumentory' called "The Kids Are Alright - THE WHO".  I guarantee it will to blow you away.

Uhh ... I have it on my DVR, and rewound it to make sure, and there were a few times what was coming out of the speakers wasn't what was going in the mike. It probably was recorded recently to match their currently scratchy vocal quality ... makes sense, thats a big show to screw up so they didn't want to take chances. If you have it recorded, check it out.

This is hotly debated all over the internet right now so we're not going to solve it here.  ;D

+1 on the Who.    I got to see them live in 1975 at Tampa Stadium with the Eagles.    What a show.   they had the energy of a hundred JackRussell Terriers that have bee caged for a month!.   One of the most enjoyable shows I have seen.

My observations were that some of the instruments were prerecorded (keybords/organ on Baba OReilly and Won't get Fooled Again) but the Who have been doing that for 30+ years.  I am going to replay my DVR again and see if I can tell any discrepencies in the vocals.   I did notice that Pete Townsend did change the rythym of some of his vocals.....syncopated pauses that were different from the original recordings.  whether it was planned that way or just CRS sneeaking up on Pete, it was noticeable.

Roger's voice was gravelly and lacking the power and range of his youth....if that was his choice for a Pre-record then his mind is slipping as well.     Anyway I did enjoy seeing these guys still rocking .....
