Video of Boar charging Aussie Bowhunter
« on: February 10, 2010, 08:49:11 PM »
Gidday folks, not much happening just now, I'm not expecting to hunt until April. I thought I'd post the Youtube video of a Northern Territory Boar hunt with a trifle more excitement than the Bowhunter banked on.

Don't know any of the folks but it's a good few minutes of video. If you don't like loud heavy music??? turn down the volume, screams from the victim and his mates laughing are much more fun ;D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsMAMsE0Qgo

the fella got lucky and only got bitten on the foot.

Kombi, been Bowhunting for 30 years , not a prolific bowhunter only bowshot a handfull of pigs and other game since the family come along but I have only been fair dinkum charged a couple of times in that 30 years and that was because I cut off the pigs escape on 1 occasion and the other I had just caught a juicy little Sucker for the pot and Mum took exception to it. Sure they get there hackles up and click away with their tusks at you and some pigs will bluff charge which is exiting/ frightening aswell but 99.99999999999999999999999% of the time you got no worries.

Firearms hunting is way cool but you have not experienced the primitive side to hunting until you sneak in to under 15 yards and slip an arrow into the vitals of a pig, they spin around on the spot looking for the hornet that stung them, then stagger away a few steps and die having no idea you are there. If you where not half the east coast away I would arrange a trip and hopefully show you what your missing out on. You should keep options open and give it a go one day.

The moral of the story is not to stick an arrow into a hog's gristle plate and then walk up within ten yards directly in front of it to shoot again. Had he walked in for a broad side or better yet quartering away shot like a bow hunter should take on a hog he likely wouldn't have gotten charged.

Personally I think it was set up intentionally to get a charge on the video and he got what he wanted even if maybe a little more than he expected. Ya can't cure stupid.

Mention Stupid and Polititions in the same breath and I take this thread off on a tangent. There's stupid decisions when your hunting and then there's the more dangerous, "just plain DUMB"

Western Australia are considering  joining Tasmania and banning Bowhunting outright and are thinking of introducing restrictions on ownership of bows ala BS gun laws Australia has now at the insistence of the RSPCA, an organisation I have lost all respect for years ago. South Australia HAVE OPENED DISCUSSION with the other states to ban calibres above .416 and restrict further those above .308.

Aparantly they are concerned about Military Snipin  calibres falling into the hands of terrorists and do not like .338 Lapua's etc. So the Aussie that wants to hunt large feral game like Asiatic Buffalo, Camels ,Scrub bulls etc will not be permitted to own a 450.400 for instance Kombi. I do stress this is if this gathers any momentum

The Anti's got a fight on their hands as the 3 governing Archery Bodies in Australia united and had open talks with the WA police Minister who received them well and was appreciative of being presented with facts instead of anti's tired rabid lines and the pro firearms organisations are learning to lobby effectively and members of the firearms community are feed up and do not just sit and whinge now. A lot of damage is done forever now but I see signs of an effective pro firearms / archery fight emerging, sadly 15 years to late

Jacko....

Thanks for posting this video.  Like you, I rather enjoy the primitive side of hunting.  Sliding into bow range of something that can put the hurt on you definitely heightens the senses.

I gotta agree the video looked more like "boar shooting" than "boar hunting".  Im thinking the guy getting run over was pretty much predictable in those circumstances.  What I can't believe is that the guy threw his bow away when the pig came at him.   ???
