beerbelly , and do they rot in the street ? they will show up on some other govt. hand out . Lets fix wealfare as in stop all but for those that can't work . Make them get a job .
As far as testing you don't have to submit to a test unless you want to work for the company that makes you take them . Besides many of the testing programs are a scam . I had a welder that went to work for the city . there were 6 in his group . They had a random test each quater . He was picked every time unless they needed to get rid of someone .

I'm a RN, so I'm used to it. Every time something shows up missing in the drug cart, most of us nurses say "give me the cup" got nothing to hide. Its those that ya get the himming and hawing from in my profession that are hiding something. But that's nursing.

I drive tractor trailers and have for the last 30 years. Drug tests have been a fact of life for drivers for a long time.

I bet your rep would have had a better chance of getting his bill passed if he hadn't included the other congressmen.

We have it!
“I have nothing to hide”.  I can not think of another phrase that is the biggest loss of liberty than that.  Again, if an employer asked for this is one thing but Uncle Sam can go fly a kite.  Why people put up with an employer asking for a test is beyond me.
Before anyone starts I DO NOT DO DRUGS.  I never took the crap and will never do that.  That is not why I have issue with this.
Folks, you do realize this is a new trend?  100 years ago this would NOT be happening.  The government would NEVER do this and companies would not do this.  If you think drug use is worse now than a 100 years ago you need to do some research!!!

I drove truck, OTR dry van for a few years before going into nursing. Obvious need for drug testing in many areas.  Was used to it then. Drug testing in school...if a kid is acting crazy, yeah. More drug and alcohol abuse in the last 10yrs country wide. Yeah, its probably time. Ever had to care for a crack baby? It'll make you cry..

a hundred years ago were there  illegal drugs ?
I agree with ya wareagleguy . What people are saying is they think Americans should start having to prove to GOVT. they are innocent instead of Govt proving they are guilty . Any one who would support that would be welcome in the Obama camp .

Shoot,
I am with ya on most of that but the Obama camp.  If you really dig deep you will see that those that support testing is from the right wing camp!  While I am not a big left winger, I find the left more in tune with a persons liberty.  That is one thing I like about the Dems.

Shootall, I don't think so on your assumptions. many professions had drug testing requiriements in place for years. The liability of having an impared worker far outweighed the inconvenience of testing workers. Blame that on the lawyers, not Obama. Of course nobody wants to push tort reform, do they? Same is true of other areas of life. Litiginous people with a good lawyer can reap a bundle from an incident of anybody who is impaired. legally, its all about CYA.

agreed.
One problem is that individual responsibility has been lost because of lawyers.

I got my little booklet right here. Says nothing about tort reform. It also says nothing about welfare entitlement, or unemployment entitlement, or taxes. So pick and choose your issue. That is reality. I would love to exclude drug testing, but first, Lawyers need to be reigned in.

I have been peeing in the cup and have been susceptical to lie detector testing for 40+ years now.  I retired from a career and went into the consulting side of my profession a few years ago and am still required to meet the standards of my line of work.  I can't say that doing this has affected my freedom or my chosen life style in any way.  I would be kidding myself if I thought that the government didn't know everything that there is to know about me or anyone that I am associated with.  Still hasn't affected my freedom!  Drug use and excessive alcohol use will, most definitely, affect job performance, proven many times over!

Talk is cheap. If shootall's family was wiped out today by a drunken or coked out trucker, he would be the first to sue the company, FACT. Put in plain terms, we assume that the nurse, the doctor, the trucker, the pharmacist, the teacher, the train engineer, the bridge operator, the cop, the garbage collector, the construction worker, the auto repairman is drug free. We are shocked when something untoward occurs from any one of them impaired. We rage that something should have been done to prevent this from happening. We sue...

Yes, true. I still call unfortunate BS on you Shootall. It just hasn't really hit home yet. I'm referring to commercial drivers, though can be applied to individuals. Was making a general statement without any offense meant. Pissing contests are not my style, mainly since I'm a woman. So please quit the histrionics.... You refer to a welfare system, which isn't in the Constitution, but cite drug testing as not being in the Constitution. So if a state offers welfare but puts conditions on it, as Wisconsin's, 2yrs only then find a job or out, a person desiring free money with conditions, as the state so deems, may have to pee in a cup or find a job....

Yes it was my choice but it was also a mandate from the Government for all who decided that they wanted to work in this field.  I could have quit at any time, however, I would not have been off the hook for a while because of the things that I knew.  I will, for the rest of my life, be on the list.  And that doesn't bother me.  I can still do anything that I like, as long as it's legal.

wareagleguy , 100 years age drugs were not illegal. Hell cocain was an ingredient in that great cola ,coke! No drug use was not as prevalent as now. There also were a lot less people.
I think they should legalize all the drugs and let the dumb bass--- kill them selves. But they should still test and keep the dumb a-holes from being in a position to cause harm to people.

bearmgc. You started it trying to put words in my mouth . As far as histronics you feel the Consitution etc mean nothing here ? With due respect it has hit home for me . Loss of freedom is a real issue with me and should be with all Americans . Making more laws to fix wasteful programs is putting a band-aid on when a tourniquet would be in order.

I take a drug test once a year ,plus the random test every once in awhile!
I don't take any drugs so it's no big deal.
BUT !!! I bitch and complain about it the loudest!
It REALLY burns me everytime I  have to PROVE I'm innocent!
I'm an AMERICAN so leave me the #@$# alone!
If I don't take the test I don't work.
So I get in line with the rest of the sheeple and piss in the cup :(
