I am looking for a reasonably priced chrono...What is a good deal for the money?
This is the only place I could think of to ask, I know it isnt a re-loading question, but it is mostly us re-loaders that use them.

This may not be what you're looking for but I have the Oehler one. It costs an arm and a leg but I like the "proof" screen (the extra one to confirm fps) and the print out. If I had to do other again would probably go with one of the cheaper ones.

I use a pact, It seems to work ok. I looked at the chronys but couldnt understand why any one would want to send their bullets right over the top af all the electronics! At least with the pact I can replace the sky screens if I goof. Goof with the Chrony and you repace it all. KN

I've had a chrony for over 10 years. I think I paid about $90 for it. They're cheaper now. Ive used it for arrows bbs, you name it. It seems to work fine. You do have to be careful about not shooting it. You have to be about at least within 6 in. for it to register. If you do shoot it they will give you another one for half price. At least that was the deal 10 years ago. depends how much you want to spend. If you're on a budget, as most of us are it'll work fine. How many bells and whistles do you need to tell you how fast a bullet is going.

I have been using my dads Pro Chrono. It is an older one with small cueball size holes in these little cards. The bullet passes quite close to the unit so niether one of us has the cohones to shoot through it down range. We have never had a lick of trouble and with things being equal (like temperature) it is very consistant. It shows averages (SD we fugure them) right at what we got in years previous with the same loads, so we have sort of a "test" for the thing. Trajectory is right with book figures for a given bullet at a given speed. I think he has had it for about ten years and I guess what i'm trying to say is over the years it has proved very believeable. Even more so now that I have been able to compare others results here in online BB with fellers that SHoot loads that I or my dad have also shot. I want my own someday and see now the prices are better. I was thinking Chrony because of the upgrade offer.

WHich one do you have Lloyd? and have you thought of upgrading. I hear those are sensitive to shadows. Heard guys say they work better on overcast days & some set the unit in the shade.

I love my old Oehler - it was a bit expensive and a little more hassle to set up but when ( and if you use it quite a bit it IS WHEN) you shoot the sky screens, its easy enogh to replace with a new one. The newer Oehlers are probably even better.

I have a beta it does seem to work better on cloudy days about every third shot it registers something off the wall. I just dont trust it. Ur it was sent in once for repair and they said theres nothing wrong with it. It consistantly shows about 100fps faster speeds then the two Ohlers that my buddys have.

I've got a ProChrono and like it. Actually, I'm on my second ProChrono. After shooting the first one, I've quit using it downrange. :oops: Right around $100.

I have an Ohler 35Pand really like it. I can shoot down range if I want. I especially enjoy it because I can print out each string of shoots with a specific load and attach to that target and put them in my book. I can then come home and review all the rifles and loads I shot that time.

A ditto to 45 Colt's post -- the ProChrono has worked well for me. If you can afford the Oehler I'd go for it as it is THE standard, but ProChrono is a good economic choice that performs well for me.

I have the GAMMA CHRONY,along with the bells and whhistles that ya gets to use with it. I like mine,and only found a couple of problems with it., I made a clear,plastic cover to go over the front of it to protect the screen. I use clear packing tape to go over the photocells. The tape comes off with no problem,and clean tape goes right back on. The plastic protecter is to protect it from powder residue. I set it up 15 feet from the end of my gun barrels when I am shooting. Most of my shooting is to check my BPCR LOADS,and as most of ya know they can be kinda..dirtly,in part. with a grease cookie. I have not shot the rods yet otta thier holders,nor the main body of the chrony. For some reason I kinda wish I had not just said that. :cry: :cry: :cry: King

I just got a Beta Master Chrony this past summer and have had no problems with it whatsoever. The Master version puts the electronics on your bench, so they are easier to read, reset, etc and you also won't shoot them!! I've used it for my bow and rifle and it has worked fine. For $99 or so, I don't know if you can beat it (MidSouth Shooter's Supply).

This one does all of the SD, AVE, High, low, etc calcs for you, as well.

I've got a ProChrono plus that I've used for several years. Great chrono and was relatively cheap. I'd buy another if it wore out or was damaged beyond repair. My son did put a .22 throught the front of it a few years ago. For a reasonable price the company sent me a new readout and electronics which I replaced myself. I made a sort of remote handheld pushbutton switch to reset it by using a long 15 ft. 2-wire cord, a springloaded button switch and the proper miniture "phone jack".
