Handi family addition
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:44:06 AM »
I've been patiently waiting for the "good reports" coming out of Ilion since the move from Gardner. It sounds from reading the recent updates here that things have improved and I've decided to get a new Handi to add to my collection. I opted for the .357 Magnum this time around.
Been keeping an eye on Bud's availability and on Monday I started looking for a local FFL to do the transfer for me.  I found a FFL dealer and asked him about doing the transfer for me and he asked what Bud's was going to charge for the .357 Handi and offered to get me a better price. Heck Yea!
He told me he had 4 available from his distributor and he would charge me $229.99 + $15.00 shipping. So, total cost, $244.99.
It should be arriving early next week. Yee Haw

Congrats Bill on the nice price find. I wanted one for awhile, but didn't need the 20ga combo barrel that they seem to always have in stock.
I also have a 357 coming from Bud's. It gets outta jail on Tuesday.
Gonna swap out the syn stock with a Boyd's forrest green camo thumbhole that been collecting dust for awhile.
I'll use it as a carrot on the boy to keep his grades up.

I checked the dealer's website yesterday and all the available .357 Handi rifles are sold.
This is the web address: http://www.timbercountrysports.com/

Just a small sporting goods shop located in Dallas...the one in Oregon ;D

Since Oregon has no sales tax the only additional cost is the $10 Backround Check fee for the Governor.

After looking closer at the lists of available firearms on his site it appears he gets his firearms via Davidsons.

I don't understand how Oregon can charge 10 bucks for something they don't do.  The background checks are done by BATF and the FBI.......free.....as far as I know.

The new rifle arrived at the shop this afternoon and I got her home now. Everything looks good!
The Serial number is CAC 144*** and the receiver is stamped with the .357 Mag., .44 Mag. and Shotgun only warning (as expected). Clean up will be the next order of business. ;)

In a nutshell, this is what the dealer told me Pete.
"If you buy a gun from a licensed dealer in Oregon, a background check is performed by the Oregon State Police. At that time the make, model, caliber and serial number of the gun is recorded, along with all your personal information."
The $10.00 processing fee goes to OSP (Oregon State Police). I guess they like to keep track of the honest folks here...
