B-Square 14411 Scope Mount for Puma 92
« on: February 12, 2010, 08:57:12 PM »
Does anyone have any experience using one of these? I hate the thought of putting a scope on my Puma 92's, but my accuracy suffers with my aging eyes. If nothing else, I would use it for load developement, then take it off for iron sight practice with an optomized load.

Here is a link to the Midway site for the product. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=492683

Hi Firestick,
I have the same problem, ageing eyes. I have a Henry big boy and really hated to scope it so I installed a peep sight where the buckhorn was  and it really improved my accuracy. Maybe it won't work for you but who knows. I bought a peep that slides right into the 3/8" dovetail.

You might want to click on the "Product Review" on that Midway link - there are 5 reviews from purchasers, and three give it a negative review.

Marlon Denler of Okmulgee, OK posted: "Used on Puma 92 ss 480 Ruger - first shot sheared mounting screws. Retapped for larger screws tried again - dovetail bent. Made out of cheap alluminum alloy, not heat treated . Might hold to recoil from small dasey bb gun but wouldn't bet on it."

Johnny Lacombe of Stone Mountain, Ga posted: "I put on my Puma 454. I did not like the fit or look. I took it off and put it in the closet."

Jeff Sparks of Hamburg, AR posted: "Very poorly made, threads stripped with no pressure at all. Good design but weak materials. Would give zero stars if that were a option. Do not waste your time with this product."

FWIW, it's not that difficult to add a receiver peep sight to a Rossi Model 92 ( I've done two I owned ), and a peep will do wonders for sighting problems - ESPECIALLY in conjunction with a fiber-optic front sight bead.

I saw the reviews, but then you have the last couple:

After reading previous negative ratings I was skeptical but took a chance. The mount was, in my opinion, well made, easy to install, and only MINOR fitting issues on my Rossi. 1 - 15 seconds with a Dremel to take a bit off the main screw (it rubbed the bolt). 2 - Same for rear allen screw so ring would sit flush on the rail (the head stuck up just a bit and hit the bottom of the scope ring). Alignment was great. Best for a short light scope, obviously, but no problems with recoil on .44 Magnum.

And

Found base to work very well with 44 mag Puma. Did take some fitting, nothing major.

So what is real? Guess I will try one and see.

Regarding peep sights; I have used them with mixed results on firearms I do not own. Maybe I will dress the 357 up with the B square and the 44 mag with the peeps and see.

One thing is for sure, the peeps would look better and more natural.
