From a letter sent to 'takimag'.   While I don't agree with everything the writer says in the letter, this is well-said....

".......I would also like to point out that before the invasion of Iraq, Britain and America had been illegally bombing that country on average once a week for twelve years, deliberately destroying bridges and roads and power plants and water refineries, while killing half a million malnourished children through sanctions that Madeleine Albright said was “worth it” in an MSNBC interview. And now James Jackson (the subject of the letter) is applauding “extrajudicial” killings, which in plain, honest English means murder. It seems to me that an Arab like Usama bin Ladin has good reasons to be angered, and it will take a long time before he has killed enough Americans to even approach the number of Arabs killed by the United States and Britain.

As for Iran, oh boy. There is CIA’s support for the Shah’s coup against Iranian democracy in Operation Ajax. There is the economic attack on Iran after the people revolted and threw out the U.S. puppet. There is the U.S.-funded and -supported Iraqi invasion of Iran, which killed two million people in the 1980s. There are the continued efforts to isolate Iran internationally and financially, and the financing of terrorist groups inside Iran which have killed and maimed government officials with their bombs - the Ayatollah’s left arm is withered from such a bomb attack. And even as the U.S. invades and occupies Iran’s western and eastern neighbors, allows nuclear weapons in U.S. allies Israel and India and Pakistan, and places missiles in nearby Georgia, it is Iran that is painted as the aggressor....."

I think there is more than enough real evidence that Saddam Huisein and his rotten sons were responsible for crimes against humanity that should not be tolerated by any society.  All of that aside, if Saddam had complied with the U.N. orders to open up for complete inspection and transparency, President Bush would not have had to drop the hammer on that bunch.  Remember, they had signed a cease fire agreement, which they violated regularly.

In any event, Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, shooting missiles at Israel, and countless other dastardly acts put them on the road to destruction and I for one think we did what had to be done--sooner, or later.  

Even if all the above can somehow be rationalized, there is one act that totally justifies taking Saddam and his regime down and that was when they set fire to all those oil wells.  That was a crime against the whole world.  That put enough crap into the air that Algore himself should have been begging to pull the trigger on the bastige.

rio. Like Slim said, I'd love to see you out in FRONT of our men, you definitely aren't behind them. This is why I didn't take the bullets you offered on the pif even though I really wanted them. I knew they'd shoot WAAAAAYYYYYY to the left and I can only compensate so much, wouldn't have been worth the bother. POWDERMAN.

I can see that some take a lot of the Iraq/Iran controvesy out of context.
War supports killing.
If I remember history correctly there was a cold war thing involved.
Iran's "democracy" was also Soviet controlled.
Let's do justice too history before distorting the facts.
This letter ignors history to condemn killing of civilians in war--I do also, but am not sure how this is actually achieved--especially when there are no uniforms involved and when civilians insist on living in the battle zone.

You and I may not agree on many things when it comes to what our strategic approach to the ME should be, But I have always respected your right to have your beliefs and still  do,  though they differ from mine in many ways..

But I gotta say .. I love your sense of humor , This is just plain funny no matter who ya are.  Thanks for interjecting some levity into all these discussions.

SCOOTRD. A few years back we were shooting accross the hollow with a 40+  mph crosswind with my 45 acp, distance just over 130 yds. I found that by aiming 10-12 ft to the right I could hit the target pretty often, targets were a gal milk jug. I really didn't want to go through that again. Have a good day. POWDERMAN.

Well fellas, Some of you may honestly believe (like Albright) we were justified in murdering 500,000 children...invading and destroying a country 1/2 way around a world that was already beat down and no real threat to us... if you honestly believe it was morally necessary then even though in my mind you are wrong, at least you have 'some' ground to stand on.
Others of you obviously simply worship death and destruction and I really would rather stand in front of you than stand behind you.
Perhaps God will have Mercy on us, or maybe we will reap the whirlwind.

Do you really believe that America would intentionally starve to death a 1/2 million children???What a totally ignorant thing to say.
