Anyone try a carbine in .17 Remington?

How does the .17 Remington workout in the T/C carbine?  I owned a 700 Remington in this caliber and found it a blast!  

I have an old barrel in .223 Rem. which is 21" long.  The new barrel in .17 Rem. is listed at 23".  How many fps could I get with the longer barrel?

I have a .17 Rem 22in barrel on my Encore---------It is really short but was pleasantly surprised because it is my calling set-up for predators. Oh, and by the way-it is a shooter!!!!!!!!
Get a .17 Rem you will be pleased!!!!!!!!!!!

17 rem carbine

i bought a used 21inch t-c barrel.  it shoots half inch groups with the second reload i tryed. so i,m done with load development. i,m going to wyoming this summer to shoot some prariedogs.

I've got a 24 inch Dave Van Horn bull barrel and it is a shooter with factory ammo, I can't wait to empty those hulls so that I can reload!  I like it and haven't seen the fouling issues that I"ve been warned of.

Chickencoop--------Prior to deer season, I was at the range practicing with my T/C Encore pistol in 7mm-08 and met another member who arrived with his .17 Rem. carbine.  After awhile, we swapped weapons and much to my surprise, I found myself hitting clay pigeons (stationary) out to 200 yards.  Now this is no big deal with my pistol at the bench, but I never expected a rimfire to do this shot after shot.  After awhile, we were hitting the larger fragments quite consistently.

I believe that the .17 is very capable for varmints at that distance, if not too large an animal.  I don't know that much about its killing power but can vouch for the accuracy.

Oldhunter, if you were shooting a rimfire it was the 17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire.  The 17 Remington is a centerfire cartridge.

Gitzit........It was a rimfire and you are correct.  My error!!  Saw the 17 caliber and only thought of what I was shooting.  Thanks for reminding me.  The new rimfire is still very impressive and think I need to discuss the possibility of a purchase of one with my spouse.
