College Professor goes postal.
« on: February 13, 2010, 11:00:56 AM »
I think this is a prime example of what happens when we fail to teach our children how to deal with failure.  Today's society places so much emphasis on personal self esteem and there are no winners or loosers.  A prime example of this are kids sports programs that alow any child to play regardless of ability and do not keep scores during games.  Schools doing away with publicly recognizing high achievers with special awards during graduation ceremonies and treating all kids "equally".  These kids grow up not knowing how to deal with loss or frustration in a proper way.  Instead of examining themselves and looking for ways to improve themselves they blame others for their failings.

Updated at 3:37 pm ET -- The Braintree, Mass. police chief held a press conference Saturday afternoon to talk with reporters about the 1986 killing by Amy Bishop of her brother.

Bishop is the University of Alabama, Huntsville professor accused of killing three of her colleagues and wounding three others on Friday.

Braintree Police Chief Paul Frazier said the file of the 1986 shooting which the police closed as an accidental gun discharge, is missing.

He added that from what could be pieced together, the police chief in 1986 ordered Bishop released even before her arrest was formalized.

Sounds like a job for 'Matlock' - it appears like it would be good fodder for a night time detective show. My Dad still tells stories of 'unusual' happenings within the law in small towns in Maine. BUT, then again, I've heard of such things everywhere I've lived across this country of ours, no place is immune to it and stuff get interesting when other jurisdictions get involved.

Nope....can't have happened. We all know that schools are gun free zones.  And that professors are too well educated to EVER do something like that.

And on the news today, she asked the arresting officer what she was being arrested for. He told her she was suspected of killing 3 people. Her reply was "there not dead"

I have told stories here of how justice WAS in those small towns. It worked out pretty well, but, Murphy is always lurking.
What concerns me, is not the past, things happen, but the way this has diverted attention from the issue at hand---applying justice to the here and now and moving forward.

i actually knew a colledge professor that i thought was  a little disturbed..
if things didn t go her way,she might have been one to fear also..
in this case.. i think time is gonna reveal a lot more info.
getting tenure is a highly sought after goal for them..
rather than give her that ,,its my understanding ,she was going lose her job..
we ve read if postal employees kinda coming unhinged.. this may be a similar thing..
mabe time will tell..im thinking the poor lady is mabe,, one of the intellectual people who denied ever letting her
creator be a possibility ,,in her life..just my thinking on it..slim

Shoot, when I was going to school on the GI Bill, some of my "professors" smoked pot during the breaks.  I reported it to the dean and he looked at me like I was the bad guy.  Some of the professors were good, hard working teachers but the majority were just there for the easy job and the paycheck.  Getting tenured was a major goal for most of them, but a few (the better ones) really were there to teach first and worry about tenure later.  The ones that considered themselves the "educated elite" were usually the worst teachers.

Read now that she was also a prime suspect in a letterbomb plot a few years back.
