Mold suggestion for 4" .500 S&W
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:52:17 PM »
Hi,
I'm going to start casting for the mighty 500 S&W. This is a new caliber for me, so I could use some pointers. I prefer using gas checks in all magnum handguns, so that's what I'm aiming for. I'm looking for molds that cast in the mid-weight rainge, let's say 350-450 grains or thereabouts. LBT 400 or 440 WFN seem like a couple of good options for an all-rounder, so maybe that's where I'll start.
Are there any decent steel molds for the 500 out there? What diameter do I size to? I don't have the gun before me, so I haven't had the chance to slug it yet.
Thanks.

Mountain Molds will make you pretty much anything you want, in aluminum, brass, or iron. Not sure about sizing diameter, you'll have to measure your cylinder throats.

Are the ballist-cast molds worth the $? 150 for a 2-cavity molds seems quite steep. I'm going to slug my gun next weekend when I get home, after that I'll make the final decision. I need at least one LBT mold for my 500 as well.
