Remington Arms "new" 1911
« on: February 15, 2010, 07:15:55 AM »
I heard that remington arms is going to offer us a new 1911.  This could be good or bad.  I'm not sure if they bought into a cheaper line of 1911's from another manufacturer like they bought the Baikal line of shotguns from the Russian company called Izhmash (the ak47/saiga people).  Today it sems the manufacturing world is contracting and subcontracting there work out to other manufacturers that can manufacture it cheaper than they can and they just put there label on it and call it there's trying to ride on there old solid reputation.  All i'm says is look out for who manufactured it when it arrives.  If remington arms is the middleman the cost could be much more to us for less quality.  Well have to watch this to see how it developes in the future.

I just don't want another springer like 1911 from brazil with a key switch type safety.

If you hear any new news please post it.....

Remington Arms formerly of Bridgeport,Ct.  They moved south and still manufactured ammunition.  There gun division was in Ny state and i'm not sure if there still there in Ilion, Ny I think???

Remington is still in Ilion, NY and is the oldest gun manufacturer in America.  They also make H&R's there.

Remington made 1911s during WWII.  They should forget handguns and the 1911 in particular.

Of course anything Remington makes will continue to be the best there is.

Not everything labeled Remington is made by Remington.  The SPR shotgun line is Russian.  Not your typical Remington quality.

Yup they bought into the russian izhmash(main company) spartan line of shotguns of course they didn't take the saiga line with them.  Saiga does still offer the saiga shotguns in the ak47 action design too.

After going thru a few bad remington 1100 "new" 12ga shotguns i kind of lost my taste for remingtons.

Yup there guns were manufactured in NY while there ammo was manufactured in Bridgeport,Ct.  I believe the buildings are still empty in bridgeport but they sold the property were the gun powder was stored.  They actually had train tracks to shuttle the gun powder to the plants.  This was also a test target range and it was a place were the exc's could hunt deer with the visitors too.(potential customers)  There was wall to wall deer in this place.  The gun powder was under ground. My dad was an experimental/ repair machinest for many years there until they closed and moved south.
