Turkeys
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:38:30 AM »
Saw five turkeys yesterday feeding in a corn field. All of them had beards. A couple looked like they would go 10-12 inches. At one time i owned a house about 1/4 mile from where i saw these. The first thing i did was mow the 8 acres behind the house that had grown up to weeds and junk. I could look out the window and see turkeys almost any time. I was raising beagles at the time and stocked a bunch of rabbits to start the pups on. Then the fox moved in. That was the end of the rabbits and turkeys there. My wife didn't want me to shoot the damn things. She liked to watch them .

Seems to be a lot of turkeys around this year and toms at that. I have a real problem with "yotes" and my wife is the same way, don't shoot em. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, wack em!!!! I have thinned out a few this year so far. Spring turkey should be great this year.

Never seen any yotes there but sometimes at night i use to hear them. I owned 16 acres behind the house. I gave the local hound hunters the ok to run their fox hounds through there. The guy to the west of me come over one day and told them if they got on his property he would have then arrested. After my wife died i sold the place. The last time i was past there the whole length of the road is now posted.

Weve had a few seasons that had looked very promising in late March to mid April only to have DEC net a bunch of birds in our area and relocate them before season opened and put a big hurt on take in our area those years. As far as yotes I shoot on sight I will blow a chance at a turkey to kill a yote.
