Refinishing suggestions for making a blued gun more durable

 I have a blued contender that I want to have refinished more like stainless for the durability more than looks. I have looked a little at Croming and Dura coating. I need some first hand openions from exsperience.

Anyone out there have an openion? ???

Hard chrome is my first choice. I have a couple of carry guns with the HC finish. I am satisfied with the results. No experience, but some of my acquaintances have had the powder coating applied to working guns with good results. Cheaper than the HC process as well.

I have both.
HC is good---real good.
Shake and bake are real good---offer some clor choices.
You know the old float your boat thingy.

I have several that were SSK Khromed as long as 20 years ago, and have held up well, in tough hunting conditions. Contact SSK Ind.

I have guns and barrels in both and it is my opinion that hard chrome holds up better than duracoat. The duracoat finished barrel is showing signs of wear after less than 1 year of service. My hard chrome is on my 45 Autos and has held up for well over 20 years. This has been my experience.

Many years ago I had a couple of guns plated by MagnaPort and they came out great.  Looks a little like a brushed stainless and very durable.  I don't know if they still do it, but it would be worth contacting them.

I don't like Duracoat on handguns, especially if they will be in and out of a holster. I had my Bisley Duracoated and that crap started flaking off in a very short time. I had that stuff bead blated off and a high polish blue put back on the gun. Now it looks like it's supposed to. I would take hard chrome over Duracoat any day.
