Differences in Glock generations?
« on: February 16, 2010, 07:58:01 AM »
What are the differences in the various generation Glock pistols?

I've been toying with the idea of getting a service sized "four-tay" since my local Wally-world seems to only stock .40 S&W (good a reason as any for getting a new gun right?).  I've kind of narrowed my choices down to a Springer XD or a Glock.  I know there are about three generations of Glocks and was wondering what the differences were.  I'ld be buying used and hopefully cheap.  If anyone here owns both a Glock and XD please let me know how they stack up against each other.

Now there are 4 gens of glock. Are you planning on using a tac light, you need to read up on the issues with the glock 23 and 22.

Issues?  There are issues?  But it's a Glock... I didn't think Glocks had issues.  Please elaborate.

Brett,
Haven't heard of any problems with the Glock 23, but have heard, (Never Seen) of malfunctions with the Mdl 22 while firing with a tac light installed. The story was, "The light prevented the frame from flexing when firing" causing the malfunctions.  My mdl 22 runs fine with the light attached. My county agency carries and qualifies their mdl 22s w/light attached. Haven't seen or heard of any problems there. Perhaps someone who has experienced this problem could chime in---------------.

just get an 18c, and keep spraying- the only darkness will be during reloads

just kidding, ask savage (I harassed him for days with glock questions and he kept answering them, got me a g22 just recently but have no light to test out the hiccup issue).  one thing to remember is recoil thrust and duration very quite a bit from what you can actually percieve, and it makes a great difference from one load to another, on the cycling force and speed of your slide/magazine feeding relationship.  if it doesn't work, try some new ammo.

Gen I - no finger grooves
Gen 2 - small finger grooves
Gen 3 RTF - larger finger grooves
Gen 3 RTF2 - fish scale slide serrations, nubby grips
Gen 4 - adjustable backstrap, few other changes
