I must have a biathlon rifle

Not often you see competitive shooting on NBC. As a skier too, I am quite impressed with the blue runs they ski UP! That bolt flick with the index finger looks like the business for squirrel hunting :)

I like how the bolt works on those rifles too. Just a little flick of the finger and the empty is flying and a new bullet is chambered. Now, if only a guy could have the rifle and also get Magdalena Neuner aus Deutschland in the deal as an instructor, it would indeed be a very happy day. ;)

I have an EAA Biathlon Basic.  It only has a plain stock but the same action as their full-blown Biathlon rifle.  The straight-pull action is really neat and the gun is very accurate.

I wondered about that action myself after watching them some last Sat. I figured that it was mechanical but it works so smooth n slick that I would not have been suprised to find that the lever operated some type of electronic plunger.

I'm amazed how smooth it operates, just a flick of the fingef does it.  I would have expected the rifle to be more popular than it is.  I think that Americans just are not used to this type of an action, and the old Browning straight-pull .22 was just too expensive for it to really get very popular.

They are clip fed. See the three clips in the clip mounts on Magdalena's rifle above. She just removes an old clip, places it in an empty slot, grabs a new clip and inserts it into the magazine well. I'll bet they are 5 shot clips since that's the number of shots fired at each shooting stop.

The EAA Biathlon Basic does not have the neat magazine holders.  It comes with 5 and 10 round magazines.
