94 BB in 307
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:04:18 AM »
Just bought a 94 BB in 307 over the net . I understand I may use my 308 dies to reload, and see brass is still out there to be bought at a reasonable price .
Anyone have any experiance with these guns? I am thinking of loading Speer& Hornady's  170 FN and the Hornady flex tips on deer and maybe the odd Black bear .

Thanking you in advance

Since you mention bear your choice is probably a good one.
I only use mine on deer so I went with 150gr bullet.
I reloaded with the old Winchester Silver Tip in 150gr.
42.5gr of IMR4064 as per HODGDON'S Manual #26 for about 2500 to 2550 fps.
Groups ran around 1.25" for three shots at 100.
Took several deer with it, all one shot kills.
The longest was about 185 yds on a decent 8pt.
He did run a ways but was no problem to track.
It is a good cartridge, right on the heels of the 308 in the velocity department.
Depending on the gun and how hot you load it is only 150 to 200 fps behind the 308.
I know at the range when you touch a round off it gets everyone's attention.
Comments like "What was that" & That sure ain't no 30-30" are common.
I love mine and will never part with it.
I have a 2x7x32 Weatherby Supream scope on it.
Don't care for the cross bolt safety but I can live with it.
All in all they are really nice.
I also have 94 BBs in 444 Marlin and 375 Winchester.

 ;)
I have been lookin' at these guns for awhile . Almost bought a 375 at a gun show where the man had traded the stock from a new gun then put the old traded  stock back on the new gun to sell as is .
I was really looking for the 356 W at the time .
Now this is the second 307 BB I have seen and it was within my price. It was the 307 or a 99E in 308 and the winnie won.
Thinking of using a weaver 2X for some quick close range shots , but may use a 2x7 later .
Thanks for your response. Learnt something today from just you .

I have the same gun, but I have never hunted with it for some reason.  I have a 1.5-4.5x32 on mine, you are correct about it getting everyone's attention when it goes off.  I just shoot the facory 180's in mine as they shoot pretty good.
