Here is my 2 cents, Something with a low fixed power or  1.5 to 5 a 44 mag shot most likely will be inside 100 yards so no need to get too much power. unless you are going to squirrel hunt with it.  ;)   I have a leupold 2x scout on my 35 remington and it is perfect, but you may not be able to do a scout mount on that handi. but a 2x would do the trick in my estimation.

Thanks guys, I have a fixed 4x Bushnel, and a very old 2.5 x 5 Herters scope, and was debating on putting one of those on or just getting a new one, was also wondering what you guys think is best for factory ammo as I don't reload yet, it will be for deer hunting only, Ive seen that some here recommend the Winchester White box in 240 gr jacketed soft points, just wondering of its results on deer.
Thanks again to everyone on here for there help and kind words.

It is by duty bound honor to tell you to stop everything! You must immediately get on the phone with Midway USA or some other supplier. You will need a classic single turret press kit. Tell 'em you want everything you need in a box. The LEE anniversary kit is what I just bought for pretty cheap. You will also need a set of carbide 44 mag dies, 1000 brass, 5000 primers, and at least 5000 assorted bullets. Oh yeah you gotta have about a billion dollars worth of assorted powders to work up loads. Then you have to start casting your own lead core hunting rounds.

See where this hobby gets expensive! Hey enjoy the gun. If you get a chance, start reloading cause 44 mag ammo ain't getting no cheaper. By the way I am not in anyway affiliated with LEE loaders. If you want one, that is what I would recommend, but others here would say RCBS and so on.

Enjoy your shooting time. I bet you have an out of the box shooter on your hands. And the scope, a lot of folks around here like the Simmons Prohunter 4x32.

The Hornady Leverevolution is good stuff from my experience, but I also have the winchester white box soft points as well. I like 240 grain sp for hunting, the Hornady gummies will reach out and touch something at longer 44 mag ranges.

Mine is wearin' a Weaver K-2.5 and that works great for the range the 44 will be used at.  Mine has sights and I was suprised how good it, ( I ) shot since these old eyes don't do irons so good anymore. :'(  Hope she meets all yer hopes after that wait.  DP

Thanks again guys, I'm sure I'll like the .44, I was wondering what your max range that you you guys hunt with is on the .44 mag.

Again thanks to all for the help

I don't think I've taken deer much more than 75-80 yd with the 44, but she would reach out another 50 with out much trouble.  Depending on your zero and how high your scope is, after that you have some drop to contend with.  DP

I have a 2X7 Bushnell Banner setting on mine. I also have a Marlin 1894 lever with a long eye relief 2.5X Tasco mounted low just ahead of the Hammer and a old Japanese 2.5X Bushnell Banner setting on my T/C carbine - 17" 44 mag. I think any quality lower powered scope will do you just fine. If it has an eye relief of 5" or more (think shot gun scope), you can mount it low ahead of the trigger. I have not shot any deer with the Winchester White box 240 grain soft tips, but they shoot good out of my Handi. They clock right at 1800 fps in my 22" barrel. They should do a good job on deer as long as you place them correctly. The Winchester 240 grain loads are one of the cheaper, if not the cheapest loads you can get for the 44 Mag to boot.  Good Luck and Good Shooting

But Im going to go to the millet DMS scope, I have one on my AR and that thing is great!
One thiing it is a brick, pretty hefty at 1lb or so. but IMO worth it.

Have fun with it!
