Trap and skeet are totally different games and what's right for one isn't really right for the other. Which game do you plan to shoot primarily? I'd select based on that.

$1000 isn't gonna buy you much in an O/U new but might get you a decent used older Citori, Ruger Red Label, Winchester 101 or the like. But it can get you a nice semiauto and money back. Personally I prefer the Remington 1100/11-87 in semi's but really a pump is a better choice for trap in my opinion. You could get a nice used trap and skeet gun if you go with the two Remington's 1100/11-87 for skeet and 870 for trap.

I was looking at an 1187 the other day but it wasn’t a trap model .i am looking to do more trap then skeet. Can any one tell me what the different in a standard 1187 and the trap? And would a 28 " sportier 1187 do alright in trap? I was at gander today to and seen the stoger condor comp. O/u and was wondering would these guns hold up for some recreational clays and a little hunting to? I know they are no were near the upper end and don’t look nearly as good but the price is good but not sure about quality because I have never shot one.

The Condor is a pretty low line gun with a lot of known issues. I'd not personally trust it to hold up but that's up to you to decide.

No a field grade isn't the best choice for trap it is better as a skeet gun if open choked enough.

In trap all targets are going away and rising. You want a gun that puts most of the shot charge above the line of sight where as in a field or skeet gun you want the pattern to center at point of aim.

Folks use skeet and field guns for trap but it's sure not the way to get good at it. I much prefer a specialized trap gun for the game and really prefer it to be a pump.

Of course the other thing to remember is that in Trap and Skeet, you are probably going to go out and shoot at least a couple of rounds of 25 birds each, and its pretty typical to shoot at least a hundred shells.   Field guns are designed for hunting where if you shoot a box of shells in a day, that's a lot.

The point is, you want something with a decent recoil pad, and more weight than you would want if you were carrying the gun in the field all day.   A light weight gun with a plastic recoil pad will beat you up in Trap or Skeet.   If you want a light weight gun, go with a Semi Auto, they will give you less felt recoil, and some like the Benelli have a decent recoil reduction system.

If it were me looking for a gun in your price range, I'd go for a used Citori with screw in chokes.

To bad you don't live near Buffalo,NY. I have a Beretta o/u with screw in chokes. It just might be for sale. Sure wouldn't be $1000 either.

I just recently purchased a Yildiz MX Clays O/U.  It is a Turkish made gun for Academy Sports.  If you don't have an Academy in your area (mostly South I think), you will have trouble finding the Yildiz guns.  I LOVE mine.  Low recoil, great wood, ported barrel.  Stay away from the cheaper Yildiz if you are looking, they have an aluminum receiver.

I just paid $850.00 for a ANIB 30" Browning 425 from a local guy that I found in the want-ads. It upped my averages in skeet signifcantly. My buddies tell me that I shouldn't sleep at night for paying so little! Point is, if you look long and hard enough, great o/u guns can be had for under a grand.
