Ok hoosiers, from where art Thou?? (where you from)
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:03:29 AM »
I`m from West Indy over by IRP, so I have to drive a ways to find somewhere to hunt. This year was my first time in the woods in about 25 yrs. I did a lot of trapsing around Morgan Monroe state park last fall. Saw 2 doe and 1 buck but didnt have a shot at them. I got aggervated at the end of the season cause I`d come home empty handed so I bought a Remington 50 cal inline and headed back to the woods for the second round, this time on some private land down in Brown County. I finally bagged a small doe the second Friday of black powder. I never did see the big buck that I`d seen acouple times before the seasons started. Oh well, it was meat in the freezer, and that`s my story and I`m sticking too it!!  Gary

Well sir, I am just outside of Salem. About 30 miles north of Louisville Ky.
We are lucky enough to hunt with in a mile of the house. sometimes 150 yards of the house ;) This is the first year we"my 2 kids and myself" got skunked. Daughter had a shot and well we didnt bring the deer home. I had one shot and blew it also. Fortunately daughters boyfriend brought a couple does home.

I guess I condider myself lucky for bieng out of the hunting game for so long. That little doe cost me a fortune by the time all was said and done. It was about 55 miles 1 way to the park and to where I was hunting and I was going at least every other day if not sometimes every day (diesel was expensive) then add on the cost of a new Black powder, other misc. equip. and that deer cost me in the nieghborhood of $600.. but I guess it did me some good, I walked more it that 5 weeks than I have in the last 10 yrs put together. I never could sit still for very long so I walk and stalk mostly. The best thing best thing is, I have a camper set up about 10 miles from where I`d been hunting in the park, so I some place to go and rest up and have dinner before the afternoon trudge. That was for the firearms season, Black powder was a different story. I finally got permission to hunt there where the camper is (church camp, about 4 miles west of Helmsburg) it sure made things easier. My wife and I had spent the night the night before and she had looked out the window just as I pulled the trigger and saw it drop where it stood. She got a kick out of that.   Gary

I forgot, I went back and stepped it off , it was right 110 yrd shot. I  had the rifle sighted in at 50 yrds..

I live in the NE corner of the state about 20 miles North of Fort Wayne on the Dekalb/Noble county line. I live in the country and can hunt behind the house. I have a 100 yard range in the back yard for sighting in or just fun shooting. I also have property further North in La Grange County I can hunt in. I plan on putting in a 100 yard range there as well, but have not got it done yet.

closest 100 yrd or better range to me is, I think is, Camp Atteberry and I here the employee`s there aren`t very friendly and they usually have a long wait for a lane. Never been there, it`s all forum here say. I used to belong to the Wilbur Wright conservation club between Muncie and New Castle when I lived in Muncie. they said there rifle lane was 100 yrds but I always wondered if it really was. Guess I`m gonna have to rejoin so I have a safe place to shoot...  GARY

My family lives in (and I call home) New Albany. Floyd and Clark Counties are part of my usual "stompin grounds". I have places to hunt and shoot in Borden and Charlestown.

Now I just wish I had time to visit there again sometime soon. Gotta go, real busy these days!

Thanks, Dinny

I live in West Terre Haute (not in town, thankfully) out in the country past Saint Mary of the Woods College. I hunt a mile from my house, and also down in Vincennes as well as Loogootee.

Tom,
Any signs of feral hogs anywhere near Evansville?

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny, a while back (as far as 12to15 or so years) we had several around here in the stripper hills. Some guys from up around Bloomington supposedly came down here with some hog dogs and a few locals started trapping them and I haven 't heard of any being seen around here for some time. They say you can't kill 'em out once they're established so I can't say for sure.

It looking like we are getting just about the whole state covered. Now if you will all go outside and start beating the brush and heading for the west side of Indy I might not have to hunt so hard this year. Just drive all the critters to me and I`ll just take my pick of the various critters an let ya`ll have the rest... Gary

OK, I live a few miles south of FT.Wayne, and hunt mostly my in laws farm in Blackford Co. I also make a trip to hunt the Wisconsin opener in central Wis. with my son and an annual trip to Patoka Lake for the opener of Muzzleloader season. Hunt the reservoir around Huntington a little. Soon to be retired and have some time hopefully spend tramping around the woods.
