Hmmmmm.  Comes here with a screen name that starts with BS.     The first gun he mentions is a handi.     Then the first name he mentions is Lonny and it all made sense.     Livin kinda halfway between you two in New Salisbury

Boys, boys, boys. Don't make me havta separate you two and send you to different corners. ;D :D

I've spent some time in both those areas and am rather fond of the Lanesville area, much more than New Salisbury. Maybe that's cuz I never liked Salisbury steak... :P

Thanks, Dinny

I'm from SW Georgia and my wife and  are looking for a home to buy in Madison.  I hope one day soon to be a Hoosier.  Duck and dove hunting and fishing are my game sports and I hope to find some streams  to flyfish for trout. I decided it was time to retire and move North.  When you grow up in South Georgia and Florida that's the last place you want to retire--too many Yankees.   ;D

I am a Covington expatriot. I have moved on to Mn. now. Was raised and lived in Il. for thirty odd years. I loved Indiana, well except for the going barefoot part.  ;D Did I mention I was raised in Il?

I live in the NW part of the state just outside Pittsburgh in Carroll county. Hunt in White county just north of Monticello. Bow season is just around the corner! Got a brother who just moved back from Chicago and now lives just south of Bloomington. Might get a chance to hunt some of that public ground this fall. I love deer season.

Lonny, I appreciate you keeping me on you mind about a gun range.  I am joining my wife in Madison next week to look at some houses she has found.  While I am up there I am going scouting for a gun club and some place to shoot.

Dixie the only range I'm aware of is over to the west at Pekin.  Not too much of a drive.  Shoot, since you're buyin a place just get one with enough room to shoot on or has accommodating neighbors.  Oh!  And good luck findin a trout stream around Madison.  Unless ya bring some with ya and keep em in da pool at your house, it ain't likely.  The cats, bass and the like done ate em all.

Empty Quiver you could have put ya a handful of rocks in them dang shoes till ya got used to it.  They's a reason the city boys and other furners never hear us in the woods till it's too late.

Syko, thanks for the advice.  I was talking to a couple of guys on a fly fishing forum and they said most of the trout fishing in Indiana was up in the Northwest part of the state.  I missed out on 16 acres with a cabin and a couple of barns.  There was a stream running through the property.  My wife wants to buy in the historic district so when I go visiting all the historic taverns I won't have far to walk home.   ;D

State of Kentucky releases some trout every year in some streams there.  Actually funny to watch.  They're released upstream of waiting fishermen who immediately catch and remove most of them.  ::)    Round here we call them little fellars  bait.  Specially them purdy colored ones.   ;D   Flatheads would love em.

Be careful of them "historic taverns"  Some of them are actually local knife and gun clubs.  If you ain't packin one or the other, they'll loan ya one on the way in.  Gettin back out is another story all together. 8)

That's the way trout fishing has gotten in North Georgia.  All the pristine trout water has been leased up by private trout fishing clubs and the public water only have trout in them when the Game &  Fish trucks back up and dump hatchery raised trout.  Downstream the typical nonconnected fly fishermen are standing shoulder to shoulder to catch a 5 or 6 inch trout. Last summer my wife and I booked a two day fish trip on the Chattahoochee in North Georgia.  Saw one bow in two days and my wife caught it It was a giant 4 incher.  I have been warm water and saltwater fly fishing  for 60 years and I always gauged a fish by weight, 5 lb. bass, 2 lb. channel cat, etc.  This new breed of flyfisher gauges by length, 8 inch rainbow, etc.  Most of these dudes didn't know what fly fishing was until they saw a "River Runs Through It."

The only thing historic about those taverns are the buildings.  Down  where I live now, we call em 2-beer joints.  Buy two beers, one to frink and one to throw.  I have found a couple of knife and gun clubs in Madison.  Didn't stay long. LOL

I fished the Ocklawaha years ago when it was one of the most pristine rivers in Fla.  The Oclocknee River starts about 5 miles from my house in GA.  You can step from bank to bank in some places.  Full of snakes.

Well, I still wannabe a Hoosier.  I have never met a finer bunch of folks than the ones I've met in Indiana.  My wife and I have been over to Vevay several times looking around. The river road is a nice drive.  Still looking for a house in Madison down the hill.

Thanks Lon371, I appreciate the welcome.  Yes Vevay is a beautiful area.  We love it.  Someday i hope to build a home down there.  I have 73 acres of mostly hills and trees and a lonely power pole to plug campers into.  Dixiejack, if I hear of anything in Madison I will let you know.  I have alot of family there.  Great Grandparents lived on 3rd street in Madison for many years.  It is a neat city.

BUCKS, My wife lived on West 3rd just West of Broadway.  She was there for eight months and the company she works for sent her to L.A. this past Sunday.  That was a bummer.
What is so nice about living in that area of Madison is that you can walk to all the "happenings."
I check all the real estate for sale about 2 or 3 times a week and we have a realtor looking for us. We certainly would appreciate you and your family's help if you hear of anything.

My FIL and I tried to kill all the deer around Sulfer back in the day.  I'm afraid we came up a little short but we sure put a dent in the population back then.  I'm in New Salisbury.

Welcome aboard to all the new guys.
