Man flies plane into IRS building in Austin Texas
« on: February 18, 2010, 08:30:44 AM »
Looks like a guy flew a small plane into the IRS offices in Austin, TX earlier today.  Looks to be either a Cirrus SR22 or a Piper Cherokee.  Both are small 4-seat piston engine planes, so damage was limited.  2 people have been sent to the hospital and 1 person is unaccounted for.

The pilot apparently left an anti-IRS note before setting his house on fire and then taking off in the plane.

They are waiting on confirmation, but apparently the man's wife and daughter were in the house when he set it on fire.  >:(

I just checked the news. It's interesting to note how quickly the web site entries of people like this are identified and used to gather evidence.

i heard the wife and daughter got out o.k.; thank goodness.
but i think it is funny that he burned the house down so they couldnt sell it after his death to recoup any money.   you can only push people so far before they say ENOUGH!  people have a limit and once it is crossed, watch out.

The guy was insane.  His action can not be defended.  I don't think having to pay taxes should push a mentally stable person to this behavior.

His manifesto sounds like something that could have been written by several of the more vocal members around here.  Here's the nasty catch though:  his actions are going to cost us millions of tax dollars...

That, and severely endanger the state of General Aviation.  A lot of people don't realize that private aviation is under a lot of the same pressure that gun ownership is (and why we have AOPA to protect our rights similarly to the NRA).  We're already losing airports to real estate, having them shut down due to noise complaints, as well as having do deal with the myriad of red tape (particularly after 9/11).  There are already a few loonies out there questioning whether or not private citizens should be allowed to own and operate their own airplanes.  Stuff like this doesn't help (and unfortunately the aviation crowd doesn't have a constitutional amendment to help out against such attempts).

If you want a good film on General Aviation and some of the problems facing it, I'd HIGHLY recommend you checkout One Six Right. http://www.terwilligerproductions.com/onesixright/officialsite/

Nah, he was a middle of the road white guy that got pissed off and took action. Not a good action, but maybe he felt he was at the end of his string and cut it short himself and in his own way. Don't push a white guy too far... he might snap and become your worst nightmare. That is what scares most people that aren't white or part of the .gov establishment. If you push us too far we may all snap together and bring this whole country down to its knees.

Hate the IRS??  I see my responsibilities as a citizen of the United States as:  follow our laws, serve on jury duty, serve in the military, be an informed voter, and pay my taxes.

For the life of me I don't understand that kind of thinking.  Those were AMERICANS that were in that building.  Just working people trying to make a living.  Yes, working for a organization we may not care too much about but still working AMERICANS!!!

This country is changed by law and not by terriorist acts.  The VOTE is your weapon!!!

Tell you what then.... You show me THE LAW that says you have to pay personal income tax to the fed and I will place $100,000.00 in your hands....

I agree... but it is not my duty as an American as it is not a law... it is something I am forced to do by a overbearing and over reaching government....

Matt,
I understand what you are saying.  This fact is there a many laws that is not in the constitution but that doesn't make it wrong or right.  One thing I do believe is that if the governemnt would have NOT taxed us we would have been invaded by another country by now.  I think one of the reasons we are the world super power is because of the wealth in the country and that wealth is taxed.

Do I like it, no.  I do think we must stay on top of it am make sure we draw the line as to how much we pay.  Also, we should stay on the government to REDUCE it's spending to stay inline with the tax revenues it gets each year.  This is my gripe about the whole thing is the governement will not stop uncontrolled spending.

Well the fact is that there has been a $300k dollar reward for anyone who can find and show the law that requires Americans to pay a Federal Income Tax... It has not been collected yet and has been offered for over 5 years now that I know of.

Another error in the fact is that not one single cent of INCOME TAX goes to cover government spending... IT ALL GOES TO THE FED for interest on the money the gov borrows to cover all the entitlement programs we have....

Also I did not mention the constitution as it matters not in this case... THERE IS NO LAW.... Constitutional or not... do a little research and learn a little about the Fed and the IRS... very interesting stuff.... but as a side note... you damn well better pay your taxes... and dont use me as an excuse not to... I dont need the headache... lol
