What about a Brittany?

Anybody use a Brittany for upland game birds; pheasant, chukkar, Hungarian partridge, etc.  Most of my experience has been with springers and labs, just curious how the brittany stacks up, my wife is in love with the things and I wouldn't mind having another dog around.  Thanks.

Never owned one, but a buddy I hunt with a lot has a small female Brittany, and she is murder on the local pheasant population.  She works close, and is good in the thick stuff.  Nice temperament.  A little hyper, but most hunting dogs are.  The long fur could be a problem, depending on where you hunt, as could their size if you cover a lot of ground.  If I were to get another dog, I would look closely at a Britt.  Just have to convince my German Short hair.

I hunted pheasant over a brit recently. Great dog, a little stubborn (she was having a good time and didn't want to come in) but really enjoyed what she was doing.

    A friend of mine gave me a britt. Said he was done hunting pheasants. She would not hunt at all for me. I let a friend of mine use her for the weekend. She wouldn't hunt for him either. He let his brother use her and she hunted great for him. I gave her to his brother and i went back to beagles.

I used to own pointers before the farmers started SPRAYIN instead plowing in their chemicals. Now their aren't any quail here at all. Oh, and the farmers deny it.
Anyway! If there were still quail here I would have to try a Brittany. I'm told if you leave'em alone they'll train their selves. Good dogs.

Since she's gotten her life straightened out her career seems to have taken a turn for the better.

A young to middle aged Britt will cover a LOT of ground if you let it.  They'll hunt in close, quarter naturally, point (and hold) and love the kids.  They LOVE to hunt and play!

My one and only dog is a Brit, and I'm pretty sure she trained me! Smartest animal I have ever known, easy-going temper, loves the kids, friendly, just a great dog. And she has the most beautiful natural point I've ever seen.

Get one from a proven hunt line and you won't be disappointed

When I was growing up I had the chance to raise and train upland game dogs.  My winners in field trials were english shorthair pointers.  The best all around dogs though were Brittanys.  These dogs will hunt till thier feet bleed, will hunt more than upland game dogs, (pheasant, quail, waterfowl, squirrels, and rabbits)  They also steal hearts and become the family's best friend.  Last treat them well and they will try to do anything you ask.

That's the one thing the guy I hunted with said also. Spend the extra money and get one from a proven blood line.

When I was a kid, my buddy's dad had a brittany.  Good hunting dog and if you came around the house at night old Stubby would bite you.  Hunter, companion, and watchdog.
