Just came home for lunch and had this email from Boyd's waiting.

I notified 4 members in the WTB classifieds that have posted WTBs for them that they were available about an hour ago, wasn't gonna post it until they had a chance at em, but the cat's outa the bag now.

Being limited quantities like they always are, I just wanted those members that have stated they're wanting to buy them to have first shot at them instead of one of the many unregistered guests, I'm sure they'll appreciate the heads up tho.

AtlLaw, I just looked on Brownells website. They gave a few forearms available.

I don't see any of the camo checkered that I bought a year ago. 427-000-135
But they do have whats listed as Forearm - Classic - Checkered 427-000-131
This should go well with the natural lam stock. Price is $34.99

I'd say it's kind of a toss-up between nutmeg or natural lam.
You may want to look at the boyd's link above to choose color.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a natural stock from
Boyd's and a forearm from Brownell's and do a restain to match'em.
Since the stock shows as unfinished, the staining will be minimum effort, just
fininsh it off with a matte spray sealer.
I have a nice cabernet stain that I used when I refinished one of my AK's.
This could fall into the Stimpy color scheme in FAQ's.

Thanks, just ordered the Ultra Forest to go with my new 204 Ruger Varminter I got last week for 170.00 at Sportsmans Warehouse(used to be SW anyway). I had planned on sending my other rifle off to get a varmint barrel and happened to stop in store right when they put a huge clearance on a few guns. Had the Ultra hunter with fluted barrel for a steal... Going to Ft Lewis to sight it in today.

That looks like a nice combo for my new-to-me 30-30 Handi. Did you also finish the forearm to match, or was it factory finished? How much sanding was required on the buttstock and what products did you use to finish the wood?

It's a factory 243 Ultra Varmint Thumbhole stock rifle.

Alright you guys . . . just talked with Ann at H&R and the cinnamon laminate forends just went on backorder

Said it shouldn't be too long as it's a standard factory item. Cost was $32 with shipping.

They make two cinnamon laminate forends, the checkered for the Ultra Varmint, and the smooth for the Ultra Varmint thumbhole and SS Ultra Hunter.

Some natural unfinished one's that you could stain to your color liking....now that would be Handi.

If Boyd's does, they've never listed them, H&R makes all of the other stocks in their new wood plant in Ilion.

That's typical, I think it just depends on who get to talk to. $:-\$ R01146 is the part number for the cinn lam checkered Ultra Varmint forend, they may have added an F to this old(Oct 2008) part number, and an even older number for the smooth R02332 (2007), ya might see if they can match those up.

Checked in with H&R again today. Claim the only cinnamon laminate forend is the checkered version and it is still on back order. Been almost 3 weeks. Hmmm . . .

That doesn't make sense unless they did away with the thumbhole Ultra Varmints which come with a smooth forend, they're still listed in the 2010 catalog.

The smooth camo lam forend was discontinued tho.
