Surprised you guys haven't thought of a perfect award for " Cannon with personality "   or simply Best cannon of the year......or some suchlike........having badmouthed ' a lttle ' the kewpie.......a bit of a BM&C institution ,maybe coming up with an idea for 'a hands on' physical  award will make restitution.
How about the " Golden Gopher " award...........the little guy in the above pic      can of gold paint   held for a year        little cheap plaque on white oak base        winner's  name engraved   low cost  high esteem   what do you think ?

« Reply #33 on: March 12, 2010, 03:12:15 PM »
Fresh from the Olympics took a Gold in Back flipping .  ;D

Side panel says  IGG-GBB - 1 of 1   Translated says ... Iron Gopher Gang , Gold BB  one of one .
One of the rare precious BB's in one of a kind production .

Silver BB says he is confused as to why he is the only Silver Grey BB Gopher and why is that darn BB mortar always pointed his  way ?
Golden Gopher says "It's be cause Gold is more presious than silver !"

RING IN SPRING !!!!!!!!   8)

Dare I offer up the Golden BB as a prize  ????    :'(
Who would want one any way ?
And what are the rules ?

Well worth winning Southpaw.........I would love to fly in to Montana and carry off " the Golden Gopher " oooooooooo  nice thought..........your gopher is not just good enough.........it relates to what the award is for............and demonstrates the total lack of sanity of the competitors........I think it deserves a 'Kewpie'  (smirk)

Back to the shop ..... A miniature rotating cannon ?  Gold of course , but then what about the Mortar shooters ?   Ah a Morpheus  "Mortcan"  , or a "Canmort" ?
Pressed for time ... Off to prototype more IGG bases today ,
I finally got the independent owner of the CNC plasma table off center and ready to experiment more .

Mean while back @ the shop .....  ???

Morpheus is in deep thought ....... :-X

I'm sorry boys, I'm a weak link! :(  It's snowing in Chicago on March 20th, and its 50 miles from my driveway to the range, so the sad truth is that I guess I'm just not dedicated enough to drive the 100 miles (RT) to fire a couple shots out of a cannon. If the weather permitted me enjoying the range for at least a few hours then believe me I'd be there.

The original in-place barrel is 2.5 so I fitted it with a removeable 1.75 sleeve. Now I can do tennis balls and golf balls too ;D

Didn't make it to the range cause I got called in.  But did get home just in time to load the fire cracker cannons and salute in the backyard.  Not want I wanted but it'll do!!

In such a hurry to make the time that I forgot the camera.

Happy Spring Equinox everybody!!  Mike and I finally found a secluded spot with a nice snowy peak backdrop at 10 minutes before Noon.  All of our old close-by shooting spots are golf courses or housing projects now.  We slid the Smart sideways into a muddy ditch, jumped out, dumped the Coehorn into a snow bank, lit the fuse, removed the lens cap and thump, snap, threw the mortar into the Smart, hopped in and rode the ditch sideways for 50 yards until it climbed out, went back to Mike's place and discovered that the photo was a no-go due to over-exposure! Too much glare off the snow, I guess. Bummer!!    400 grains of FFg gives quite a thump.  First blank for me ever and I believe the second for Mike in 30 years.  Lots of fun!!

Tracy and Mike
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

We did it right !  @ 12 high noon , well not high as daylight Savings casts an 11:00 oclock shadow !
Pictures to follow .
DD and I shot of more than one round .  The weather was perfect , low 50's  very light breeze .

Now to go get camera and get busy down loading editing . My last shot@5PM was to place "Rachel " back to the pond . Wife was in the house . She said she heard it hit the ice .   It made a good thunk but never broke through the ice . Its sitting out there waiting for rescue . Maybe in the morning I will slide some pallets out on the ice for a" Rescue of Rachel" . She is a 9 lb Bowling Ball .
