Knight Bolt Misalignment Blues
« on: November 08, 2003, 01:19:06 PM »
Well the TC Omega and Encore fans can celebrate, I currently am trying to figure out how to get my Knight Disc Extreme bolt back into proper alignment.

Something went bad and a small click from the bolt when it was out of the gun (with the C-tool attached) and I've got to play with a misaligned bolt, a "C" tool, a secondary safety, vice grips, etc.

Anyone out there who can offer a "simple" explanation (or point to a web page) of how to put this "C-tool / Full-Plastic Jacket Bolt" nightmare back into alignment?

I am aware that Knight recently came out with a "C-Tool LESS" bolt, for obvious reasons.

I had the origional disc with the c tool. I never needed vise grips or any other tools. You put the c tool in the bolt and tighten the secondary safety till it screws out. After cleaning, you screw it back in with the c tool in the same position. It is a little bit of a pain to line up the first time but after a couple of times it's not to bad. The new Knight "elite" I just got Friday has the new system. It is much easier but you still have to line it up. I wouldn't trade my Knight for two of anything Thompson makes but that is just me :D  Don

Have you tried contacting Knight customer service?  jdinwiddie@knightrifles.com for Jeff Dinwiddie or (641)-856-2626.

I realize that it was my fault, since I absent-mindedly removed the DISC Extreme bolt without first attaching the "C-Tool".  At that point I tried to follow the miniature pictures in the Knight manual to try to fix the problem....but things definitely went downhill from that point.

As I understand it, Knight has designed a bolt that doesn't require the "C-Tool" (and is shipping that updated bolt with new DISC Extreme & DISC Elite models).  Hopefully, I can trade up to that new bolt design.

I never thought I could get in that much trouble so quickly, but I most definitely did!  So, I will give Knight a call tomorrow.

I talked with Knight tech this morning about a few topics, one being the new no-c-tool bolt. For $49.95 they will send you a new stricker assembly for your old bolt. The striker assembly a larger area were the c-tool used to be installed. You still have to turn the secondary safety in to compress the spring. And you still have to align the bolt as before.

The alignment of the bolt is straight forward once the light bulb comes on. My problem with c-tool is pulling the bolt with a scope installed. I plan on nubbing the c-tool handle off. Maybe drill a hole and keep one on my key chain.

I spoke with Knight Customer Service and my bolt assembly is already on its way to Iowa.
They will fix my problem and swap out my slightly mangled C-tool bolt for the updated C-tool/LESS model.
They quoted me $15.00 to upgrade the bolt to the new design.
(However,  I may have gotten that price because I was a sympathy case).

Sounds like they took good care of you. Don't look at it as a sympathy case. Look at it this way, you saved $35.00 on the upgrade!

Knight Customer Service gets a salute from me!

Problem bolt assembly was sent from Michigan on Monday noon.
Updated bolt assembly came back to me on Friday noon.
(And that with "ground" shipping both ways)

Now that is service, guys! :D

Yeah well there are a few other thinks Knight will do besides the regular customer service stuff. They'll swap out your sights for free if you like a green rear and red front (opposite of what's on em now). They will also adjust your trigger for you free.
