SWIFT SCOPE PROBLEMS
« on: December 22, 2002, 11:04:19 AM »
I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS EVER TRIED THE SWIFT SCOPES BEFORE AND HAD PROBLEMS. MY FATHER GOT ONE PUT ON HIS LAZZERONI PATRIOT AND SEEMS LIKE IT IS BROKE NOW AFTER ONLY A COUPLE OF ROUNDS. DON'T KNOW IF IT JUST MIGHT BE THE HARD RECOIL OF THE RIFLE OR WHAT BUT AT FIRST THE RIFLE WAS PUTTING OUT PRETTY GOOD PATTERNS AND NOW IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. NO IT IS NOT THE RIFLE BECAUSE IT IS BRAND NEW.

I am always surprised how people spend a great deal of money on rifles, but spend very little on scopes.  A study was done recently and it was found that, on average, the cost of scopes are generally about less than 50% of the cost of their rifle.  In this case, the cost of the scope was way less than 50%.

Now, this is not to say that people should spend the same amount of money on their scopes as they do their rifles (although perhaps maybe I should this.)   It will never hurt to have an expensive (or more expensive) scope on a rifle.  I understand that not everyone can afford expensive optics, but it must it cannot be overemphasized just how important good optics really are - especially on hard kicking rifles like the Lazz.

Something happened to the scope after the Lazz was fired.  These scopes just can't handle the recoil.  You simply need to get a better scope.

Could you imagine what would happen if the scope happened to fail just as you were about to take a shot at a trophy animal?  You would never forgive yourself.

BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT ZACHARY. THIS IS CAJUNCOWBOY. I HAD THE SCOPE ON MY 264 FAIL WHEN I WAS TAKING A SHOT AT A GOLD METAL SIKA (NOT SURE ON THE SPELLLING). THE SCOPE I HAVE ON THE 264 IS A VARI-XIII.

JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT EVERY SCOPE CAN BREAK BUT I AM JUST AMAZED THAT THIS SCOPE BROKE SO QUICK. THE ONLY REASON THAT HE GOT THAT SCOPE IS BECAUSE THE GUY THAT HE BOUGHT THE RIFLE FROM ACTUALLY SUGGESTED IT. I THINK HE IS GOING TO GO AND TRADE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE NOW.

Cajun,

Let me know that the most he is willing to spend on the scope, and I'll make sure to suggest the best for that money.

I traded the Swift for a Zeiss.  I like the Zeiss OK and probably is a better choice for the Lazzeroni.

However, I really did like the Swift.  Most likely, the problem with that scope was just a defect and not with the recoil, in that I shot excellent groups, I just could not adjust the zero.  If the scope couldn't handle the recoil I would have probably seen bad groups.

Anyway, I'm out some more money, but hopefully the Zeiss will perform as advertised.  It was sure easy to sight in.  3 shots after mounting and dead on.
