My 410 project
« on: February 21, 2010, 12:46:44 PM »
Found a used 410 pardner compact model at a gun show the other day.  Serial number says it was made in 2000.  This is my first H&R from the gardner, ma. factory...and its a shame they are no longer made there.  Fantastic fit and finish!

After alot of Mpro7 and elbow grease, she cleaned up real nice.  I decided to cut the barrel down to 18.75 inches and stuck on a survivor forend.  I think it came out pretty well.

It looks a bit odd with the wood stock, might swap a choate synthetic.  This will be my new camping/backpacking gun.

Nice shorty.
Now drill and tap it and mount a 2.5x20 simmons and you'll have a fun little gun.
I like the old style low comb synthetics on mine.

Guvnor,

Very nice 410 Shorty/Bug Out/Truck/Canoe/Camp Gun. How long was the barrel before you cut it. 20, 22 or 26". Can you post a picture of the contour/profile of the barrel. I would like to build a 410 Shorty, but I'm worried about the look and flow of the barrel, your looks great and maybe what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Froghunter,

It was a 22 inch barrel, so I took off a little over 3 inches.  The taper of the 410 barrel had me a bit worried about how it would come out.  I used a thin strip of masking tape around the barrel as a guide.  The cut came out nice and clean, but a bit uneven. I had to do alot of filing with a large file to get it square.  But I pretty much just eyeballed it.  After that I just used some emery paper to smooth it out and break the edge on the inside and outside of the muzzle.

Its not perfect, but this will just be a close range buckshot slinger so im not too concerned.  I wasn't too worried about looks so I skipped the cold blue.

Hope this helps:

looks great to me , you may  find a bead  for it and it you dont have  taps to thread it , just drill and epoxy it on the 410 usually have enough meat in the sidewalls you can do that

Guvnor,

Thanks for the pictures! :) I have a 410 26" barrel and the son has a versa-pack 410 barrel. My problem is I like wood stock and the contour of the versa-pac barrel is slim and would have to order a stock from gunstock that is undersize. I seen a 410 on the rifle forumthat I liked and  will have to go back and study his rig!

Thanks Again!

If you don't like the mismatched stock, Do a paint job on it.Real easy to do, and will add a lot to the looks of your shorty.

Guvnor,

Nice shorty.  Post pic if you paint the stock, also a quick description of the painting process would be nice.

Froghunter,

My gunsmith has my 26" 410 right now and when it returns it will be 22" with a scope rail.  If I remember, I will post pic so you can see how it looks.
