Spring is here in Cypress, Texas.  The bass will be hitting the beds in just a few weeks.  Here are some pics of last years Spring catch.
Enjoy! ;D

OK, I'll say it. Zulu, you are a dog. It snowed here in KS last evening. I love to fish Texas. I did Lake Fork for 10-12yrs. I fished out of Fisherman's Cove, mostly the post spawn, in the first two weeks in May. Weather has settled, folks are gone, and you can catch fish on every lure in your box, top to bottom. Life is good.

Savage .250,
Be sure to post some pics.  Years ago I lived on the St Johns river outside of Jacksonville.  Caught a lot of bass.

I'm ready, what time do we launch? Whats your favorite spawning lure?

Oldshooter,
When I fish my wife goes too.  In fact she was the driving force in the purchase of the Ranger.  We each have 3 rods rigged with different lures.  Usually a top water Rapala, a Rattletrap and a 8" lizard.  She might use a spinnerbait , a different color worm or lizard or some kind of crankbait.  We see who starts getting hits first and adjust from there.  I think during spawn, bass are not too particular.  If it comes by them they hit it. ;D
She out fishes me a lot of the time. ???  But we have fun. ;D

Great pictures and it's good she likes the fishing. I havent fished the spawn in a while but when I did it was good fun. Was just curious about the baits. Always looking for an inside tract you know.  ;)

Post some more pics when you get em!

Now is this the Cypress, Texas just north of Houston? If So, what lake are you fishing? Livingston or Conroe

Lake Conroe is 50 minutes to the boat ramp so we go there the most.  Livingston is 2 hours, Lake Bastrop (which I really like) is 2 hours, Fayette County and Gibbons Creek are both 1 hour 45 minutes.
She not only likes fishing, she loves guns. ;D  And buys her own. :o  I love it!

I hope you do...catch and release.   Come to think of it, how much meat can be on a dink anyway?    ;D

I`m waiting for the weather to warm a tad before I get out.  Next week for sure.
Just finished over-hauling all my Bait casters and re-wrapped a couple of guides.
Boats in good shape, tackle is good to go, batteries are "full-up" and I`ve got some gas money.
I don`t have to worry about "dinks" much as I shake them off .  :D  :D

In the 1970's, four of us fished for bass with guides at Toledo Bend for 4 days in the spring. Maybe the best bass lake in the nation at that time. Back then the guides cleaned all the bass caught. I am ashamed to tell that we brought back a huge cooler of fillets frozen in bread sacks. We sometimes caught over 35 fish per boat. Those were the last bass that I took from TX. We never keep bass anymore, unless maybe enough for one meal while on a trip. I always keep scales and a camera on my boat.

Zulu,

Nice catch, I am envious. If I could only fish, one fish, it would be Bass. If I could have only one fishing rod it would be a 7 foot medium heavy with a casting reel tipped with a 1/2 to 3/4 oz spinner bait, so much fun, good times.   ;D

"catch and release" was/is a great way to re-cycle Bass.  The fun is in the catching and
the bonus is when you release them to be caught again.  A great idea no doubt!

Here`s a question .....  Any of you guys have problems with critters getting into your boats?   For me it`s...rats.    Those puppies can make a mess (crap/pee) in my storage areas.  My boats parked out back in the yard (covered) so it`s easy for them to gain access.
I do have a trap(s) on board and it has laid waste to more than a few bit the battle continues.  Those things are ...........nasty!
I have to vac/spray out my compartments every now and again as nobody likes a stinky boat. As the weather warms up, the rat activity vanishes. This is nothing new by the way, but seasonal.  Been fighting this battle for a long time.
Zulu: "Post away."   One of these days.   I`m in no hurry as I`m thinking once you see them "hogs" you may want to quit bass fishing and take up ...bowling.  LOL~  ;D

I had mice in my boat. Bought a 4 pound tub of poison bait bars. They eat some of the bait and are gone forever. Do this every year.

Tried "bait" some time back but after they eat it..............they seem to get down in the hull space, die and stink up the place. For a while anyway.

Traps whack-um and they don`t move an inch.

Savage .250,
You know, I use spinning reels.  I have heard that using bait casting gear is like driving Cadillacs but I started with spinning reels and never got out of the habit.  My other rod is pink, 3' long, and has the "Little Mermaid" on it. :o
Another cold front is blowing in.  Tempatures are plummeting to 50 degrees  The bass that were just starting to move shallow will turn around again and go deep.
I want to put my boat in the water> :'( :'(

A "PINK",3 foot rod with a Mermaid on it............  You Tex-a-kans  sure know how to pick-um.  Rods that is. :D   Does that fall under the ......ask don`t tell rule?   ;D

I only have (1) spinner in the boat. Use it when schoolers come up in open water.
That`s the only time it sees the light of day.  The rest of the time it`s being crushed
by 10 or more bait casters.

I have both, my spinners are open face, use em for light weightless worms. I have a buddy that I tried to convince to use bait-casters. He said "I can fish all day with my spinning reel and not backlash once, can you say that?"

Once when my Dad and I were drift fishing for Reds in Sabine lake he was using an old Huge Zebco 888 or similar with 20 pound test. He also had a cocahoe minnow threaded on it upside down, and due to the heavy line and not much of it, he could only cast it 20 yards and it would squawk like a seagull when he did. I constantly chided him about that rig. Once i looked back and his rod was pointed straight down under the boat. and he was winching a huge redfish in. I helped him net it and when he had caught his breath he softly said" wheww, good thing I was only using this old upside down plastic minnow and this old woman's reel, no telling how big a fish I might have caught!"  He caught two to my one that day!, I never bugged him about his gear again! I miss him!

I do not personally know but I have a neighbor who uses sheets of fabric softner in his boat - says mice and rats don't like the smell.  Any one else know about or try this?
