2 3/4" rifled slugs.
« on: February 22, 2010, 06:14:15 AM »
Will 2 3/4 inch rifled slugs in a 3 inch chamber work? I am seeing a lot of 2 3/4 inch rifled slugs on sale at box stores and even some gun shops. Of course some of the sales are not really all that good unless you buy a bunch. I've seen winchesters for $12.00 per box but $10.00 if you buy 10 boxes.

2 3/4 slugs will work just fine in your gun. You will also notice a reduction in recoil and perhaps better accuracy. The 2 3/4 slug will defenitely put a big hurt on anything you shoot with it. In my avitar ,that buck was taken with 1 shot from a 20ga using 2 3/4 Remington  sluggers.

The deer will never know the difference!  You will because of less recoil, but the trajectory will not be as flat.  Trajectory is not a problem unless you plan on long range shots, over 100 yd.

My 870 with a 3 inch chamber shoots 2 3/4 slugs the best.

3 inch chamber just means it will fit up to 3 inch shells so 2 3/4 will be fine. if you look at some of the 3 inch sabots you will notice that the projectile is recessed so you may not be getting anything but more plastic for the additional cost anyway.
