Let me add that I've been negligent on thanking RICHARD for the additional goodies he sent (my EXCUSE is pictured below).  Some of these will end up being awards and door prizes for the participants.

I love the drive on the south side, is it Rte 5 going by all the old plantations, into just north of Petersburg and then over to just north of Roanoke on 460.  But of course most folks would just come over on I-64 and down I-81.

That picture is exactly what I used to pattern my railroad car after.  This was a little project I worked on several months ago.  I am presently using the Brooks Firecracker Cannon as the piece in the railroad car.

Great observation!

Thanks,

Michael

I believe you are thinking of route 10 which takes you north of Petersburg.  You can then hook up with 460.  Beautiful drive.

Low Traffic Volume?    A Virginia oxymoron if I ever saw one....Driving Virginia's back roads was always beautiful, lots of things to see.  But I sure don't remember the Low traffic volume.

You likely didn't take route 5 out to Jamestown -  64 would be JAMMED, and rt 5 wide open.  It's just well off the beaten path.

And then too, you lived in NORTHERN Virginia.

So True!  Northern Virginia is a completely different entity in regard to traffic.

All the way to the NC line and east to WV and some SW....next year, if and when we hold the Second Montana Model cannon match and you come out I'll show you what low traffic volume is.... :)

By the way, and when and if there is a Second Montana Model Cannon Match it will be held in June and preceded and followed by days of gopher shooting...days, I tell you.

Well it is a relief the what is "pictured below" is not a door prize.....

I already have 6 of them and didn't want to add more.......

As to travel from Williamsburg /Chesapeake area 64 to 295 to 64 and it's a straight shot up to 81 took it many times

Saturday July 17th.  Near Willis/Floyd Virginia.

Rules and details to follow as we develop them.

Same place as before, 100 and almost 200 yards.

Great facilities, food and fun.

Limiting cannons to golf-ball bore and smaller - for safety.

We'll keep y'all posted with a summary post from time to time with changes/additions in color.

Let us know if you're coming and what you're bringing.

Cat Whisperer,
If work will allow, I'd like to come to your shoot and see you fellows put lead (or anything for that matter) downrange.

I've a 1.5" piece on a naval carriage but don't trust it with shot and the bigger piece is a tad to large. Irregardless, it would still be fun to meet some of you guys, learn a bit and chear on the Rebs!
Ammunition is like firewood. The more you have, the warmer you feel.

OK OK OK!!!   Now that the time is getting close (July 17th Saturday) here is my list of what to do in prep. for the shoot.

Publish a list of local hotels/motels.
Buy some helium and design/build the target.

Fortunately I'm taking this week off. And there's nothing else to get in the way.  Except new concrete front walk, painting the house, cleaning the attic, basement and garage, and yardwork.

Yup.   "chore-cation" is the phrase used at work.

Yup.  I'll do a spread-sheet.

If I can post the spread-sheet I will, otherwise I'll email it.

(edit: I tried posting the xls directly.  Didn't work, will try zipped file tonight).

So how does one get to Floyd, VA?

Start from Christiansburg - on I-81.  Take Route 8.  Take your time (you don't have a choice).
