Why set a season, leave it open year round like most states do for coyotes, and Alaska does for Black Bears.

 :) Howdy! For a start, they ought to send thousands of hunters into the Everglades and surrounding areas with shotguns and shoot all that they see. Maybe send in helicopters with hunters as well. However, what ever they do to control or eliminate those snakes will take a long, long time.  Always, Gene

Bet they taste like Rattlesnake, Boy do I like Rattlesnake.  Bet you could get some decent fillets off a big one.

My friend here in Ft Lauderdale is saying you can not use a gun.  You have to catch them with a snare on a stick, a net, or by hand.  You can not kill the snake, you have to bring them in alive, then they will euthonize them.  They lost my interest right there.

Sounds like they don't really want to control the problem. Florida has lots of problems with lots of invasive species fron yard chickens to monkeys and parakets. They lack in "good ole boys". They would eat the meat and bury the evidence, but penalties can be so tough that it isn't worth it.

The big snake population in FL can only be contained by hunting the critters year round.  It it probably too late to control the snakes. 
 
Problem is that the fish and game biologists who "manage" the system are control freaks.  The country is over-run with coyotes and wild hogs.  Some states still do not allow hunters to kill those fuzzy coyotes.  NJ allowed the coyote and black bear populations to explode:  As a result the pine barrens are now nearly devoid of deer.  Yep, NJ still has a hunting season for coyotes and you have to report your coyote kills. 

Fish and game dep'ts  in several states will not allow hunters to hunt hogs because they will "spread" the hog population to other areas while the wildlife dep't "studies" the hog problem.  OK is over-run with hogs and they still will not allow us to hunt hogs at night.

You have got to be kidding!  Do you at least get to collect a bounty?  If I'm going to go tramping threw the swamps with the 'gators and snakes I want something for my trouble.  If I don't get a pair of boots and a months worth of python stew and kabobs the hunt is off.   :P   What will be next, bring in live cougars and coyotes?

All I know is a big python isnot going to be frightned of a stick or snare....it will look at the bearer of said stick/snare as a meal.   if a python gets ahold of you with his mouth and is determined to hang on you will not get it off.....they have hundreds of needle sharp teeth that curve back into the mouth to prevent their catch from escaping. 

by limiting the method of harvesting the pythons the F&G officials have insured their continued existence at the cost of the native species.

this has got to be a joke, no killing just catching.
Years ago Oklahoma had a bounty on coyotes of like $4-5.00 each
you had to send in the ears with the scalp.

I wouldn't try to capture a 12 - 20 foot constrictor without a machete and a shotgun. Sorry, but they are smart and will attack you.

I can remember that, during one of my vacation trips to SE Asia (Viet Nam), we were on patrol one night looking for Charlie.  We came upon a python that was about 10 feet long and one of the guys (SEAL) decided that he was going to catch said snake.  The guy handed me his gun and approached the snake.  The snake coiled and delivered a blow to the guys chest with his nose (knocking him down) and then the snake grabbed him by the shoulder, made a couple of turns around the guys upper torso and head and commenced to squeeze.  After watching the adversaries roll around on the ground for a couple of minutes, we noticed that the human fighter was getting weaker so we intervened.  It took 4 of us to remove the snake from his opponent and the first words out of the guys mouth was "what took you so long to help me"!  We released the snake back into the jungle and the corpman had lots of fun stitching up the mighty warriors shoulder wounds which were quiet nasty.  Nope!  I aint messing with no python with just a stick!

A constrictor way too little to swallow you is still too strong to uncoil from around your neck. Most people pass out in less than 60 secounds when they are fighting and thier air is cut off. game over. eddie
