You will catch the barn cats unless you cage them . If you use a MB 450 or 550 the trap will hold them . A victor 2 or 3 will work but the trap will be bent up if the cat is mature . A House cat can be caught and released from a leg trap most of the time and will be educated if you want to let it go. Lots of dogs and cats get caught and released around here . Where i live we can trap coon year round . I use a box trap most of the time and caught the same cat 3 times and a dog 4 times . The dog once with out bait in the trap.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

my cats are aware not to go into the box trap but theres no way to get them into a cage or keep them contained for more than a few seconds theyll rip me up i caught one last week it tried to kill me and it was only in the cage trap

I have caught numerous bobcats in traps and alot of them in 1 1/2 victor coilsprings.  NONE, i state none were bent or twisted ect.  ALso i have caught  over 1000 coons in 1  1/2 victor coils and traps arent bent.  Coons are alot tougher on equipment than a bobcat.  You can catch bobcats in   cage or boxtraps easily.   When setting your boxtrap cover it up some with brush and on location where cats are and you  will catch them...  I have caught bobcats in boxtraps   only 12 inches wide and 18 inches tall, 40 inches long.  Good luck in catching that bob.

Dakota, telling us what state you live in --is by no way going to compromise your security. I would actually like to see everyones state posted next to their name. It just makes things easier to comprehend, when we read the posts.

Here in Wisconsin  we get  male cats in 50# range.   Last year a 51# cat was taken near Antigo Wi.  believe it is a state record....  largest cat ive taken has been 42#s.   What do your cats weigh or the one that bent your trap??   Now if it was a cougar , that is a differant story... like Bog  asked what state are you from.... differant states , differant sizes of bobcats ect.

The largest was over 40 the avg is around 30 some smaller. No mt lions yet . Yotes are starting to show up , son missed one only part of his pad left in/on trap . The cats seem to go nuts when you approach the trap.

Some of my cats go nuts when i come up but most just are trying to hide or just lay quiet and try to blend in to whatever surrondings they are caught in.  They do get defensive when put a catch pole around thier necks LOL... have to release them quickly or they die.  We only get a cat tag about once every 8 years or so and thats for only one cat.   Three years ago i had a tag but only caught titty sows and young cats which i released alive.  Looking for the big tom... only got five more years or more to go.... :'(
