Has anyone had a screw in choke installed?
« on: February 23, 2010, 02:25:27 PM »
I am wanting to get another H&R cut down to about 19" but I want a choke so I can shoot buckshot and fine shot effectively.  I have one now that is open bore and it throws about a 24" pattern at 20 yards and I want it tighter.  It shoots 2-3" with remington slugs.  I can rent the reamer and tap for $55 dollars.

I am wanting to do the same thing myself so I thought I would jump in your post. I found this choke at midway, is this all you need to take to a smith to have fitted.

I haven't had a handi barrel done, but I have had a Rem 870 shortened and re fit with there screw in chokes. then a couple years later, i had a Winchester thumb buster done with the same remington chokes.

Shouldn't be hard, or too expensive with excellent results!

I will have to find a gunsmith around.  The short H&R's handle like a dream in the woods.

I have a 22 inch 12ga modified youth barrel that was cut and threaded for Remington choke tubes.

Cost was $40.00.

It works great.

I am working now to install a Poly-Choke II on it so I do not have to carry tubes with me in the
field.

I bought two new Pardner 12 gauge ,28" mod. choke shotguns with lamo-camo strait stocks made in 2000 couple weeks ago. I had a friend cut one to 24" and threaded for Winchokes ,I then bought a Primos Jellyhead .660 choke tube with fluted ports. At 25yds. with Win. AA super-handicap 7 1/2 shot it puts the pattern in 10" circle. The choke tube cost $45,the work was done free, and the guns were $149 plus tax. By the way the recoil is nasty. Today I tried a Savage Four-Tenner insert in the choked barrel for pattern,at 25yds. 71/2 shot, pattern was kinda sparse. I'm contemplating having the forcing cone lengthened to help with recoil and pattern.             mooney

I can deal with the recoil.  I plan on using it for rabbits and maybe to carry in the boat.
