I got a 2nd place finish Saturday.

This season's been a wild ride.  Did good early and was in 5th place in points going into the night tournament part of the season which is normally my strong suit.  Nope, not this year.  I bombed 4 straight.  It got to where I didn't care if I went or not the last couple of t's.  Saturday though, with the help of a 4 lb Smallie, I got a 2nd place finish.

As you know I don't fish tornies but the fishing has been tough up here and no where's near like it has been for me.  While the fish are still big its few and far between where there has been many before.  A 2nd isn't bad??                                                       BigBill

I lost another big bass first cast and didn't expect it to strike the fish are up against the shoreline in small coves out of the heavy winds. It was so bad I had second thoughts of going. My rod has never bent that bad before even with 10lbers.  I was upset at first, even cars were stopping to see what I had on too.  But we are hitting 20 degrees now no ice yet but it is cold when casting even in the 30's.

Skipper,

I have only fished a few of the local WON tournaments.  Always as a team entry.  Best we ever did was a 19th. place finish.  That's my big claim to fame in fishing.  Second would have had me thinking "move over Bill Dance, new boy on the block".  I got one question though, Why do you catch more and bigger bass when fishing for the fun of it then you do in a tournament?  Lawdog

I've often wondered why you catch more when you are fishing for fun.  I guess you are more willing to try something different maybe.

One year, we were gearing up for spring tournaments and had entered 2 on consecutive Saturdays on the same lake.  First prize on the first one was a new Triton 19'.  The second paid 50 places with 1st prize of $5,000.  The week before the first one, I got a stomac flu of some kind and lost about 15 pounds.  By Thursday I was sure I wasn't going to make the T.  I talked it over with my partner, and we begged our entry fee back ($250) and pulled out.  Saturday morning I woke up fine as frog hair and ready to go.  About 9 I called my partner and said, recogn we ought to go practice?  Well we went down to the lake and the first hole I pulled into I caught 3 keepers on 3 consecutive casts.  Good keepers.  We packed out early and went to the weigh in.  Those 3 keepers alone would have earned us about $3000.  Needless to say, the next weekend in the T, we went fishless.
