newby ? how tight should arrows fit to string?

I am a newby to archery. But my 11 yr kid has been bugging me for a bow. I've picked up a couple fiberglass recurve youth bows 20# and 30-35# and used aluminum arrows for his coming 12th birthday. One bow needed a string so I found one. Tonight I tried out an arrow for fit and I was surprised how tight it gripped the new string. I'm sure it will fly off on release but I thought I'd check with more experienced folks.

I figured I make sure I have a decent kit for him to start. And I'm holding this stuff as a surprise for the bday and hopefully less snow for him to lose the arrows in.
Have a couple beginning archery books on order, and an arm guard.

any advice is welcome.

I like my arrow nocks to fit a string with enough tension to hold the arrow on the string while holding the bow by the string and letting the bow and arrow point toward the ground, but a small jerk up--not much of a jerk--lets the arrow fall off the string.  You can tighten nocks by biting them slightly; loosen them by pulling on the open ends slightly until you get the desired results.

Loose (or tight ) enough where you can push the arrow off the string without pain in the finger doing the pushing but have to exert pressure. Oh and don't bite your knocks because that can make them crooked which will throw your shot off.

If you have to force the nock on the string it is to tight. If you get it to tight you will fight accuracy every step of the way.
