NICKLE PLATED BULLETS??
« on: February 25, 2010, 12:49:41 PM »
Just got my new shooting catalog from cabelas and federal has nickle plated TBBC bullets.
I was under the impression that nickle alloy was very hard. Is it wise to send those down your barrel?
I don't shoot centerfire, but I am really curious. ???

Are you sure the bullets are Nickel plated and not the brass cases?  the silvere cases made by Fed are Ni plated.
I am not sure if the jacket made from Ni would lock into the grooves in a rifle and be accurate.
We make Cupro-nickel Heat exchangers for boilers and they are a whole lot harder at 90% copper 10% Ni than the 100% copper ones.
The Sweedes had a Cupro nickel Jacked bullet that was 95 / 5%Ni.   and my 96 swede with the military ammo is accurate, so maybe the Ni jacket is an cupro nickel alloy of 5% or less.

yep, 2010 issue of the shooting catalog, page 18, lower left corner. both the bullet and casing are nickle plated.  I wouldn't use'em myself. could it be a typo?
