How well will remington factory loaded 45-70 405 gr(1330 fps) pentrate hogs?

I love the Remington 405 grain factory load. It will do the job.

A 405 gr boolit traveling 1450fps will drive through 8 feet of meat.
Thats a buffalo from tail to chest.

I dont think a boar will have a chance

well,I shot one this afternoon and hit him in the shoulder with the Rem 405 gr and it didn't exit....I was kinda dissapointed...he only ran about 40 yards,but I wanted an EXIT!!!!...oh well,I may buy some buffalo bore,lol

and he's NOT a huge boar

I wouldn`t give up to soon on that 405 grain factory load!
All is not always perfect when a shot presents itself. How far was the shot? Was the shot straight into the shoulder or was any angle involved? Also was any bone hit solid?

about 40 yards,it did hit bone and shatter the shoulder....but it still should exit,right? I mean this is supposedly (actually) a BUFFALO killer and I just believe it should exit a hog (except maybe Hogzilla) no matter what....heres a pic...I'm proud of him,but he ain't a bruiser,lol

Yes it is a Buffalo Killer caliber, but also remember those old boys used cast solid lead bullets for buffalo! Probably if you had not shattered the bone you would gotten complete penetration with the 405 grain factory round.

ok,what have you guys seen this round do? What animals have you shot? how much penetration did you get? how far did the animal go after the shot? how much damage did it cause?

I've shot 1 hog (approx 100 lbs.,maybe a little less)at about 40 yards,broadside.I hit him in the shoulder and he ran about 50 yards. The bullet penetrated through the shoulder,breaking it (actually upper leg bone) then blew the heart in half...I did not recover the bullet to tell what it looked like.

I have used it on whitetail and good results,usually bang flop! Years ago buddy of mine shot " pineyhill rooters" and for the most part were DRT. I have just finished reloading some 405 grain Rem. to match factory load for my Handi`s. I shoot the factory loads in my 1895 Marlin.
Penetration most of the time was pass through on deer.

B-dog....I did not find the bullet...I was field dressing him in the rain,so did not take the time to sort through the gut pile.

Well it may fall short of Hogzilla, but here in Bama I shoot mortal pigs with 22 mag right on up to 30-06. The only one I have lost was with a 22lr.

well,I did some "redneck scientifical experiments" of shooting the round into milk jugs filled with water. The first time I tried with 5 jugs and it exited all of them,so this time I used 8....care to guess the outcome?? I've seen the Buffalo bore 350gr load go through nine and land in the tenth (YOUTUBE),but those rounds are CRUISING!!!! This round is only running 1350 fps at the muzzle and I shot from about 15 feet.....ALL THE WAY THROUGH EIGHT!!!!!

I'm gonna keep shooting these rounds (and save up some more milk jugs,lol).They are easy on your shoulder and did almost as good as a buffalo bore in the water (assuming it stops in the ninth jug)...it may even penetrate BETTER!!

Ya'll were all right about this round,I just got unlucky and hit a bone wrong or something.....Hogzilla better watch out,lol

P.S. I'll post any more tests I do with this round here (and I will do ten next time)
