anyone using a simmons 2x6x32
« on: November 10, 2003, 06:16:43 AM »
I have a 7-30 ss in 14" that i need to scope. I have a leopold 2x and a weaver 4x. i'm not totally happy with either. I need a varible but this close to Christmas the budget is tight. The simmons is 1/3 the price of a Burris, is anyone using one on a high powered barrel ? My range on deer is 50 yrds max in the mornings, and could be 250 yrds in the evenings where i hunt. thanks

I bought a 375JDJ barrel from a fellow a while back and he used a Simmons 2-6 on it.  He didn't sell me the scope, but he loved it and said that at one time SSK actually recommended the Simmons brand for their hard hitters.  I still own 2, one of which I once used on my 7-30 for a while with no problems at all.  I've since changed to a Burris fixed power because I like the smaller size of the scope and the extra FOV that it offers when I hunt in the brush.  No complaints on the Simmons from my experience other that that.

i bought one(simmons 2x6x32, midwayusa-$119) and put it on my 14" 44mag. i like it really well so far, and think it's great on that barrel. i've put about 100 full power rnds thru the gun with that scope. it has held zero, it's clear, looks good, and adjustments seem to work good so far. the cross hairs are fine, which is good for accuracy shooting. pretty good value, i thought.
i havn't used it in the woods yet, and i'm sure the field of view is not as wide as my 2x7 burris. if you cant the simmons sideways some i get a small amount of distortion. the eye relief seems constant thru all powers. if i could pull it off, of course i'd get another burris, but i'm glad i bought the simmons 2x6 for that gun, since i was limited on funds.
one other trait that i do not like, is the 1/2" clicks at 100, instead of the more popular 1/4" clicks= 1"@100. i havn't found that to be a problem so far though. i'd buy it again.  :music:

I bought one used at a gun show and put it on my Super Redhawk in 44 mag. Took that like a champ. When I changed to a T/C with a .30 Bellm barrel the Simmons went to it. Performed flawlessly until I bought a new Bushnell Elite. The Simmons is now on a buddy's .30 B contender and still holding zero and performing  great.

yeah, i know. i had the old model 2x7x28 simmon's gold medal that was so highly recomended. i didn't like it! at the same time, i had a 2x7x28 tc recoil proof pistol scope that put it to shame, for about the same money. i even like this newer model better.

Simmons, if I understand the ads. is now part of Meade who is well known as a manufacturer of fine optics.  I had hoped that Simmons would get better with that association.  I have an older Simmons rifle scope that is OK for a cheap scope but doesn't run with my Leupolds.  Doesn't run with my Tascos either.  But for the money it has worked out well.

Thanks for the help guys. No negative words, that makes my decision alot easier. For 117$ (stainless), i think i'll be o.k. The Burris will have to wait till next year.

Another very good quality for the price scope is a Swift. My brother bought one for his 45 bbl and it puts his trophy to shame. I have one on a rifle and it's been very clear and the repeatability is as good as my Leu's
You can check them out at EAB.

I had put a Bushnell 2X6 on my 14' 223 barrel and liked it so much that I bought another one for the 7-30 waters barrel.
