Avoid maple cured bacon!!!
« on: February 26, 2010, 04:57:39 PM »
Since the kids are on their own crazy schedule now with being teens that sleep late we don't eat together as a family for breakfast on weekends the way we used to. But I do like some of those fancy breakfast foods once in a while, like bacon.

So the other night I made bacon and eggs and english muffins and fruit for supper. I tried a brand of thick sliced bacon that claimed to be "maple cured". It was pretty tasty. However, I can't get the stink out of my house. It's in my clothes. I could smell it on myself at work the next day. I can't get the smell out of my hands even after washing about 20 times. It's winter and we've got the windows open and we're burning candles in the kitchen to help with the smell.  The whole house smells like this.

I can't believe it. It's like maple scented skunk stench.

Can't remember the brand, but maybe they're all similar in cure process. Avoid this stuff!

That must be good bacon it was in a real smoke house. Wash hands with vinegar or baking soda.

I use Maple cured bacon in the meat loaf when I make it, and it makes it just WONDERFUL, the next time you are at the store see if you can get the name of it, and I will be sure to add the name to my meat loaf recipe and give it a try as I love maple cured bacon.   Jim

They have Kosher Bacon.  Seriously. it is beef bacon and on the package it says Kosher.  Really good too.
I once bet a co-worker I could make a Kosher Bacon cheese burger.  I won.  The bacon was beef and the cheese was a tofu cheese like product.
I mostly cook bacon either in the oven or outside.  Clean up is easier and does not make the whole house smell like bacon.

DONT KNOW ABOUT MAPLE CURED? But bacon is great stuff! Any thing you put bacon on makes it a delicacy! I've seen shrimp in bacon(shrimp brochette), bacon wrapped filet mignon pieces(bacon holds the pieces together cause if its wrapped in bacon it aint a filet but pieces of one) , and I have even seen pretzels wrapped in bacon. I think you could wrap bacon on cow dung and it would sell! Personally I like mine on the side of a couple of eggs over easy with toast!  ;)

It is not the years or the milage it is the road taken.
100 Miles an hour on the free way is not going to take much of a toll.  But 50 miles and hour down the bumpy back roads is what loosens everything.

Bacon is great food. (hickory smoked)
1/2lb bacon, large onion,7-8 cloves garlic(to fight the colestrol) cook
till onion is done add 1 head of cabage cut in 1/4s and simmer about an hour covered
and you go it goin on. It smells great while cooking too.

Bacon like Makers Mark is best by itself .
I agree with the Later not with the former.
Makers Mark is good by it's self and there are other Whiskeys to use for cooking.  The Mark is for sipping.
But add Bacon to Hash browns, top a baked potato with Bacon, chedar or blue cheese, and chives.  MMMM
1/2 cooked and then wrap them on Scallops and put on the grill.  Wrap meat load in Bacon and cook.
