Removing the rear sight question
« on: February 26, 2010, 06:24:56 PM »
I have the golden boy and thinking about getting the big boy in 44mag. but I like to put a scope on it which require removing the rear sight. I just don't feel comfortable using a punch because if it slips then I will mar the barrel. Is there another method other then using a punch?

Get yourself a small brass drift to remove the sight. It won't hurt the bluing or the sight. Just be sure you tap the sight from right to left as not "unscrew" the barrel from the reciever.

Ok, so the rear sight is adjustable? That is good to know. My Dad shot his for the first time yesterday and he told me it was shooting hight and to the left and he said it looked like the sight wasnt adjustable. He did say they were all in the same spot though. He said the action is a smooth as glass until you put rounds in it. Then it is real rough. I'll tell him to oil the crud out of it and just keep working the action. EJ

EJ,
The windage is adjusted by moving the sight in the dovetail using a drift in the same direction you want the shots to move. His is shooting high and to the left move the buckhorn to the right and lower the slide under the buckhorn to obtain a zero.

so that is from left to right if you are standing behind the gun (with the stock to your shoulder) or in front of the gun?

Thanks
