PTX vs Shock Wave
« on: November 10, 2003, 06:44:42 AM »
I have been shooting the 250gr PTX in my T/C Encore 209x50 with pretty good results.  What are the advantages or disadvantages of the new Shock Wave.  Has any one shot the new Shock Wave do they shoot the same as the PTX.  I need to purchase some more bullets and was wondering if I should purchase the 250gr Shock Wave.

My buddy shots the PTX and loves them, I shoot the SST/Shockwave with great success. I don't think you can go wrong with either for the average sub 100 yard shot. Shooting time at the local range will tell you which bullet shoots best if you start stretching out the average distance of your shots. High BC's become more important as the range lengthens.

I have a SS with the laminate stock, my wife shoots a SS and camo stock. Both are very accurate with sub 1" groups pretty easy shooting 150 grains of pyro pellets and 250 grain SST's.  Both are 50 cal so far we've shot 6 critters with Sandi's Omega and 4 with mine. I really like the guns and hunt with them all  the time. There are no ML seasons around here so I hunt centerfire season with my front stuffers.
I have several Encores with ML barrels and I love the barrel switcheroo but if I could only have 1 ML it would be an Omega.  :D

Omega,

I have to say (write) that you have got to be spending a lot of cash on those pellets.  Can't loose black or pyro work as well?

I do suppose they cost more, but they do provide more velocity and greater accuracy. When comparing 150 grain loads pellets to loose, the pellets average 260 fps more at 2298 fps out of the Omegas.
I read all the time about the cost and I guess that is important to a certain extent but I just got done flinging over 200 bucks worth of high end bullets all over the 100 yard range. At better than a buck a bullet the pellets pushing them were a steal.    No I won't be buying anymore of them, I couldn't get them to shoot worth a hoot. Each to his own CF I'm on a quest for everything I can wring out of these guns and then a little bit more! :D
