what can I use to keep the brass from turning green.

Got a eouple of nice old military style slings.  The ones with the nice brass double hook clasps.  They came on a couple of older guns I recently traded for.   Unfortunately what ever they treated the leather with is turning em a bright green.  Its creates kind of a waxy green mess.  I can wipe it off for the most part, except underneath where it is riveted.

Is there something I can coat the brass with or the leather with to stop this from happening?

Thanks in advance folks....

Clean everything as good as you can and borrow your wife's clear finger nail polish.  It'll work as good as anything on the brass, and she won't mind....honest!
