Nice setup you got there These old Winchesters are great shooters; I have both a 67 and a 68, and they shoot wonderfully. My 67, in particular, is a tackdriver; the rear sight on mine leaves much to be desired, and I'd love to add a peep sight, but as I have the 68, and being that it is all original, I think I'll suffer with it, at least for now That scout style system is very neat, and I would imagine you could eek out even more accuracy with even a 1.5x scope than I can get, but I'm happy so far. I'd love to try the scout thing on a .22 lever action......that would be a hoot and a half I'd wager

Marble's makes a peep sight they call the Bullseye. It is a peep that replaces the rear leaf sight.
If you want to try that, you could always put the original sight back on.

I've read about that Bullseye. Definitely looks neat, and Marbles generally makes good stuff, though I wonder if it might not be too large of an 'aperture' to give good, consistent accuracy I know it's designed more for the youth market, and might not be as refined as I'd like; I would have to see one though to confirm that. I've also been eying Tim Skinner's sights for a while, and this one in particular has me interested: http://www.skinnersights.com/barrel_mount_6.html I'd hate to have to do any filing on the gun though, so I may just leave well enough alone for now; the Model 68 I have has a pretty good, target-style, peep sight setup on it, so I'll probably use that as my main 'shooter' so to speak. Only time will tell I guess BTW, that's some nice work on that scope mount; did you drill and tap the barrel for it?

I did not drill the barrel. The rail mounts in the rear sight dovetail. A threaded nut, like an inverted T, slides into the dovetail and a screw goes through the mount into it.
A couple of guys have asked about it, but I can't find another one anywhere.
It is similar to the XS lever scout mount, but shorter. http://www.xssights.com/store/scope.html
I suppose you could get the XS mount and cut it down, but $50 seems a little steep.

The Bullseye might seem like a large hole, but it IS farther from your eye. I'll bet it would work well. If you use the Skinner sight, file the sight instead of the gun.

If you want to give the concept a try without changing much find a small flat washer with a smallish hole and superglue it on the backside of your open sight. Keep both eyes open when you aim and shoot. Even if the 'peep' blurrs some the process that takes place between eye and brain will tend to center the front in the available hole (light) with much less conscious effort than an open sight alignment.

A scope mount for the Taurus model 62 sounds like what you have on your rifle. I have one on order for my model 67 now.
