Model 96 Swedish Mauser pics
« on: February 28, 2010, 05:12:07 PM »
These are some pictures of my original Model 96. The rifle is very accurate, as most of these rifles are. Our local gun club will hold a "Battle Rifle" shoot this summer and this will be one of the rifles I use. The 29 inch barrel makes for a long sight radius and some advantage since only iron sights are allowed. I will add a sling to aid in shooting the four positions of off hand, kneeling, sitting and prone. The range will be 300 yards at a paper silhouette target. This rifle is 111 years old and the bore looks like new.

Thanks for sharing Cheese.

The guys over at the swedish military forum on gunboards can provide lots of info for you. The date on the receiver ring looks unusual. You can verify this by checking the full # on the side of the receiver. The original sights should work well for your match, since these rifles were originally sighted-in at 300 meters at the factory. They may shoot a tad high due to the meter/yard difference, but you compensate for that with our hold. Yes, they are fantastic shooters. I love them too. Enjoy!

These are awesome to shoot besides being very very accurate too.  I don't get there "1", "2", "3" bore ratings.  I never see any difference between the ratings. I have seen all three ratings shoot good too.  Never judge the guns condition by how many times the stock is stamped near the trigger guard too.  I figure the more marks means the gun has been pulled out of service more and been repaired so its in better condition.

I was at the local public range one day and we were shooting my 1907 CG 29" barreled swede mauser using sellier & bellot 139gr ammo and we were shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100yds.  A few benches down was some SWAT guys shooting there scoped 308's.  One of them walked over to us to find out what wa so accurate with no scope.  They seen our targets during the target change.  I told them it was a 100yo swede mauser.  They were impressed and told us they have some of there scoped rifles that didn't shoot that accurate.

Before my swede mausers i thought i needed scopes on all my rifles. I thought my eyes were going bad.  Heck i was shooting the wrong guns with iron sites.

I bought one last year. It is dated 1909. What a shooter. At 100 yards I couldn't believe I was getting 2" groups with iron sights.
